कलकत्तेके सुप्रसिद्ध सुधारक विद्वान् श्रीरामतनु लाहिड़ी उन दिनों कृष्णनगर कालिजियट स्कूलके प्रधानाध्यापक थे। वे एक दिन कलकत्तेमें सड़ककी एक पटरीसे कहीं जा रहे थे। श्रीअश्विनीकुमारजी उनके पीछे चल रहे थे। अचानक लाहिड़ीबाबू शीघ्रतासे दूसरी पटरीपर चले गये। अश्विनीकुमारजीने उनसे ऐसा करनेका कारण पूछा। लाहिड़ीबाबूने पहली पटरी सेजाते एक व्यक्तिकी ओर संकेत करके कहा- ‘उन सज्जनने मुझसे कुछ रुपये उधार लिये हैं। जब वे मुझसे मिलते हैं, तभी कोई-न-कोई तिथि बताते हैं कि उस तिथिको रुपया दे देंगे। परंतु सम्भवतः अपनी परिस्थितिसे वे विवश हैं। अपनी बात वे सत्य नहीं कर पाते। उन्हें देखकर मैं इधर चला आया कि मेरे कारण किसीको झूठ क्यों बोलना पड़े।’ -सु0 सिं0
The well-known reformer scholar of Calcutta Shriramtanu Lahiri was the headmaster of the Krishnanagar Collegiate School in those days. One day he was going somewhere on a road track in Calcutta. Shri Ashwinikumarji was following him. Suddenly Lahiribabu quickly moved to the other track. Ashwini Kumarji asked him the reason for doing this. Lahiri Babu pointed to a person leaving the first track and said- ‘That gentleman has borrowed some money from me. When they meet me, then only they tell some date that they will give money on that date. But perhaps they are constrained by their circumstances. They are not able to make their words true. Seeing them, I came here that why should anyone lie because of me.’ – Su 0 Sin 0
