एक बार भक्त चतुर्भुजदासजी अपने गुरुके साथ | ; कहीं तीर्थयात्रा करने जा रहे थे। पर उनका मन जानेका नहीं था; क्योंकि वहाँके भगवान्में उनका मन बहुत रम रहा था।
किंतु जब जाना पड़ा, तब वे बहुत व्याकुल हो गये और एक पेड़पर चढ़कर मन्दिरको देखने लगे। देखते देखते इतने मस्त हो गये कि पेड़से गिर पड़े। उसी समय भगवान् वहाँ आ गये और उन्होंने अपने हाथोंमें थाम लिया। उस समय भगवान्के विरहमें जो पद उन्होंने गाया, वह इस प्रकार है। कहते हैं श्रीनाथजीने उसी समय उन्हें यह वरदान दिया कि जो कोई इस पदको भावसे प्रतिदिन गायेगा, उसे वे साक्षात् दर्शन देनेको बाध्य होंगे। पद इस प्रकार है:
श्रीगोबरधनबासी साँवरे लाल, तुम बिन रह्यौ न जाय ।
ब्रजराज लड़ते लाड़ले हो, तुम बिन रह्यौ न जाय ॥
बैंक चितै मुसुकाय कैं लाल, सुंदर बदन दिखाय ।
लोचन तलफैं मीन ज्यौं लाल, पल-छिन कलप बिहाय ॥
समक स्वर बंधान सों लाल, मोहन बेनु बजाय ।
सुरत सुहाई बाँधि के लाल, मधुरं मधुरं गाय ॥
रसिक रसीली बोलनी लाल, गिरि चढ़ गयाँ बुलाय।
गाँग बुलाई धूमरी, नैक ऊँची टेर सुनाय ॥
दृष्टि परे जा दिवस तें लाल, तब तें रुचै न आन ।
रजनी नींद न आवई, मोहि बिसरयौ भोजन-पान ॥
दरसन कौं नयना तपैं लाल, बचन सुनन कौं कान ।
मिलिबे कौं हियरा तपै, मेरे जिय के जीवन प्रान ॥
पूरन ससि मुख देखि कै लाल, चित चौंट्यो वहि ओर ।
रूप सुधा रस पान कैं लाल, सादर कुमुद – चकोर ॥
मन अभिलाषा है रही लाल, लगै न नयन निमेषl
इकटक देखूँ भावँतौ प्यारौ, नागर नटवर भेष ॥
लोक लाज कुल बेद की लाल, छाँड्यौ सकल बिबेक ।
कमल कली रबि ज्यों बढ़े लाल, छिन छिन प्रीति बिसेष ll
कोटिक मनमथ वारने लाल, देखत डगमग चाल ।
जुवती जन-मन फंदना लाल, अंबुज नयन बिसाल ॥
कुंज-भवन कीड़ा करौ लाल, सुखनिधि मदनगुपाल ।
हम श्रीवृंदाबन मालती, तुम भोगी भ्रमर भुवाल ॥
यह रट लागी लाड़िले लाल, जैसैं चातक मोर।
प्रेम नीर बरषा करौ लाल, नवघन नंदकिसोर ॥
जुग जुग अविचल राखिये लाल, यह सुख सैल निवास ।
श्रीगोवर्धनधर रूप पै, बलि जाय चतुर्भुजदास ॥
भगवान् की कृपासे उनके गुरुजीके मनमें भी आ गया कि उनको न ले जायँ; बस, उनको वहींसे वापस लौटा दिया।
