प्रतिभाकी पहचान
यूनानदेशके थ्रेसप्रान्तमें एक निर्धन बालक दिनभर परिश्रम करके जंगलमें लकड़ियाँ काटता, फिर उनका गट्ठर बनाकर शामको बाजारमें बेचता था। एक दिन एक सम्भ्रान्त व्यक्ति उस बाजारसे जा रहा था। उसने देखा कि उस बालकका गट्ठर बहुत ही कलात्मक ढंगसे बँधा हुआ है।
उसने उस लड़केसे पूछा- ‘क्या यह गट्ठर तुमने बाँधा है?’ लड़केने जवाब दिया- ‘जी हाँ श्रीमान्जी ! मैं दिनभर लकड़ी काटता हूँ, स्वयं गट्ठर बाँधता हूँ औरफिर रोज बाजारमें बेचता हूँ।’
उस व्यक्तिने लड़केसे कहा- ‘क्या तुम इसे खोलकर इसी प्रकार दुबारा बाँध सकते हो ?’ जी हाँ, यह देखिये – इतना कहकर उस लड़केने गट्ठर खोला तथा बड़े ही सुन्दर तरीकेसे पुनः गट्ठर बाँध दिया। यह कार्य वह बड़े ध्यान, लगन और फुर्तीके साथ कर रहा था।
उस व्यक्तिपर इस लड़केकी एकाग्रता, लगन एवं कलात्मक प्रतिभाका बहुत प्रभाव पड़ा। उसने देखा कि बालकमें छोटेसे कामको भी दिलचस्पी, लगन और कलात्मक ढंग से करनेका गुण विद्यमान है। ऐसा विचारकर उसने बालकसे कहा- ‘क्या तुम मेरे साथ चलोगे? मैं तुम्हें शिक्षा दिलाऊँगा और सारा व्यय वहन करूँगा।’
बालक सोच-विचार में मग्न हो गया। फिर उसने उस व्यक्तिको अपनी स्वीकृति दे दी और उसके साथ चला गया। उस व्यक्तिने बालकके रहने और उसकी शिक्षाका प्रबन्ध किया। वह स्वयं भी उसे पढ़ाता था। थोड़े समयमें ही उस बालकने अपनी लगन तथा कुशाग्रबुद्धिसे उच्च शिक्षा आत्मसात् कर ली। बड़ा होनेपर यही बालक यूनानके महान् दार्शनिक पाइथागोरसके नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुआ।
वह भला आदमी, जो बालककी आदतों, बुद्धि एवं लगनपर मोहित हो गया था, जिसने एक दृष्टिमें बालकके अन्दर छिपे हुए महानताके बीजको पहचानकर उसे पल्लवित किया था, वह था यूनानका विख्यात तत्त्वज्ञानी डेमोक्रीट्स।
जो व्यक्ति अपने छोटे-छोटे कार्य भी लगन एवं ईमानदारीसे करते हैं, उन्होंमें महानताके बीज छिपे रहते हैं। ईमानदारी एवं लगन—महानताके लक्षण हैं।

In the Thrace province of Greece, a poor boy used to cut wood in the forest after working hard all day, then he used to make bundles and sell them in the market in the evening. One day an elite person was passing through that market. He saw that the bundle of that child was tied very artistically.
He asked the boy – ‘Have you tied this bundle?’ The boy replied – ‘Yes sir! I cut wood all day long, bundle it myself and then sell it in the market everyday.’
The person said to the boy- ‘Can you untie it and tie it again like this?’ Yes, look at this – saying this the boy opened the bundle and tied the bundle again in a very beautiful way. He was doing this work with great attention, dedication and agility.
The concentration, dedication and artistic talent of this boy had a great impact on that person. He saw that the child has the quality to do even small tasks with interest, passion and artistic manner. Thinking like this he said to the child – ‘ Will you come with me? I will get you educated and bear all the expenses.’
The boy got engrossed in thinking. Then he gave his approval to that person and went with him. That person arranged for the child’s stay and his education. He himself used to teach him. Within a short time, that child imbibed higher education with his passion and acumen. On growing up, this child became famous by the name of Pythagoras, the great philosopher of Greece.
The good man, who was fascinated by the child’s habits, intelligence and passion, who recognized the seed of greatness hidden inside the child and nurtured it in a glance, was the famous Greek philosopher Democritus.
The seeds of greatness are hidden in those people who do even their smallest tasks with dedication and sincerity. Honesty and passion are the signs of greatness.
