एक राजाके पास तीन मूर्तियाँ थी। एक दिन एक सेवकसे सफाई करते समय एक मूर्ति अचानक टूट गयी। राजाने क्रोधमें आकर सेवकको मृत्युदण्डकी सजा सुना दी। सजा सुनते ही सेवकने बाकी दो मूर्तियाँ भी तोड़ दीं। राजाने सेवकसे इसका कारण पूछा तो सेवक बोला ‘महाराज ! मूर्तियाँ तो मिट्टीकी बनी थीं, उन्हें किसी-न-किसी दिन टूटना ही था। पर जिससे वे मूर्तियाँ टूटतीं, वह भी मृत्युदण्ड पाता। मुझे तो मृत्युदण्ड मिल ही चुका है। मैंने सोचा क्यों न दूसरोंका जीवन बचा लूँ। यह सोचकर मैंने दोनों मूर्तियाँ तोड़ डालीं।’ सेवककी बातें सुनकर राजाकी आँखें खुल गयीं। उसने तुरंत सेवककी सजा माफ कर दी एवं उसे उच्च पद भी प्रदान कर दिया।

I thought why not save the lives of others. Thinking this, I broke both the idols. The king’s eyes opened after listening to the words of the servant. He immediately forgave the punishment of the servant and also gave him a higher position.
