नेपोलियन बोनापार्ट बचपन बहुत निर्धन थे किंतु अपने साहस और उद्योगसे वे फ्रांसके सम्राट् हुए। सम्राट् होनेके “पश्चात् वे एक दिन घूमते हुए उस ओर पहुँचे जहाँ बचपनमें उन्होंने शिक्षा पायी थी। सहसा उन्हें कुछ स्मरण आया और अकेले ही एक छोटे घरके आगे वे जा खड़े हुए। उस घरकी एक बुढ़ियाको उन्होंने बुलाकर कहा-‘ बूढ़ी माँ बहुत पहले इस स्कूलमें एक बोनापार्ट नामका लड़का पढ़ता था, तुम्हें उसका कुछ स्मरण है ?”
बुढ़िया बोली- ‘हाँ, हाँ, मुझे स्मरण है। बड़ा अच्छा लड़का था वह।’
नेपोलियन – ‘वह तुमसे फल, मेवा, रोटी आदिखाने-पीनेकी चीजें लिया करता था। उसने तुम्हारा सब
दाम दे दिया या कुछ उधार उसपर रह गया ?’ बुढ़िया – ‘ वह उधार रखनेवाला लड़का नहीं था। वह तो अपने साथियोंमें किसीके पास पैसा न हो तो अपने पाससे उनके पैसे भी चुका देता था।’
नेपोलियन – ‘तुम बहुत बूढ़ी हो गयी हो, इससे सब बातें तुम्हें स्मरण नहीं। अपने पैसे देकर तुम भूल जाओ, यह तो ठीक है; किंतु ऋण लेकर भूलना तो ठीक नहीं। उस लड़केपर तुम्हारे कुछ पैसे अभीतक उधार हैं। वह आज अपना ऋण चुकाने आया है। यह थैली लो और बहुत दिनोंका अपना ऋण इसके रुपयों से चुका लो।’
Napoleon Bonaparte’s childhood was very poor but with his courage and industry he became the emperor of France. After becoming the emperor, one day while wandering he reached the place where he had received education in his childhood. Suddenly he remembered something and stood alone in front of a small house. There was a boy named Bonaparte in the school, do you remember him?
The old woman said – ‘ Yes, yes, I remember. He was a very nice boy.
Napoleon – ‘He used to buy fruits, nuts, bread etc. from you. she’s your all
Have you paid the price or is there some debt left on it?’ Old lady – ‘ He was not a loan boy. If none of his companions had money, he used to pay their money from his own.’
Napoleon – ‘You have become very old, you do not remember all these things. If you forget after giving your money, it is okay; But it is not right to forget taking a loan. Some of your money is still owed to that boy. He has come today to repay his debt. Take this bag and repay your long-standing debt with its money.’
