राष्ट्रधर्मका पालन
महामहोपाध्याय पण्डित द्वारकाप्रसाद चतुर्वेदी उन दिनों सरकारी सेवामें थे। वे परम वैष्णव तथा धर्मका पालन करनेवाले महापुरुष थे। वे प्रयागमें प्रतिदिन गंगा स्नान करनेके बाद श्रीमद्भागवतका पाठ करते और उसके बाद ही दफ्तर जाते थे। उन्होंने ‘वारेन हेस्टिंग्जकी जीवनी’ पुस्तक लिखी। इस पुस्तकमें उन्होंने यह भी लिखा कि वारेन हेस्टिंग्जने अंग्रेजी राज्य स्थापित करनेके लिये क्या-क्या अधार्मिक कार्य किये।
पुस्तकके प्रकाशित होते ही तहलका मच गया। अंग्रेज गवर्नरने चतुर्वेदीजीको नाराजगीका पत्र लिखवाया कि सरकारी सेवामें रहते हुए भी उन्होंने अपनी पुस्तकमें अंग्रेजोंके विरुद्ध क्यों लिखा ?
चतुर्वेदीजीने जवाब दिया- ‘मेरे हाथमें जब लेखनी होती है, तब मैं अपने इष्टदेव, देश और सत्यके प्रति निष्ठावान् होता हूँ। मैं अपनी नौकरी बचानेके लिये अपने राष्ट्रधर्मके साथ विश्वासघात कदापि नहीं कर सकता।’ और दूसरे ही दिन चतुर्वेदीजीने सरकारी सेवासे त्यागपत्र दे दिया।

adherence to nationalism
Mahamahopadhyay Pandit Dwarkaprasad Chaturvedi was in government service those days. He was a great man who followed Param Vaishnava and Dharma. He used to recite Shrimad Bhagwat every day after taking bath in Ganga in Prayag and only after that he used to go to office. He wrote the book ‘Biography of Warren Hastings’. In this book, he also wrote that what irreligious works Warren Hastings did to establish the English state.
There was a stir as soon as the book was published. The English governor made Chaturvediji write a letter of displeasure that why he wrote against the British in his book despite being in government service.
Chaturvediji replied- ‘When I have a pen in my hand, then I am loyal to my presiding deity, country and truth. I can never betray my national religion to save my job.’ And on the very next day, Chaturvediji resigned from the government service.
