संतकी सर्वसमर्थता

कुछ ही दिनों पहलेकी बात है, एक महात्माने हरद्वारमें एक सज्जनको देखकर दीर्घ साँस ली। पूछनेपर उन्होंने बताया कि एक सप्ताहमें तुम्हें साँप काट लेगा, तुम्हारी मृत्यु हो जायगी। महात्माने उनको बनारस जानेका आदेश दिया और कहा कि मणिकर्णिका घाटपर एक संत रहते हैं, वे ही तुम्हारे प्राणोंकी रक्षा करेंगे। वे बनारस गये; बनारसके महात्माने विवशता प्रकट की और तारापीठ जानेकी सम्मति दी।

“तारापीठमें महात्मा वामाक्षेपा रहते हैं। वे ही तुम्हारे प्राणोंकी रक्षा करनेमें समर्थ हैं।’ काशीवाले महात्माके कहनेसे वे तारापीठ आये।

“तारापीत बंगालमें एक प्रसिद्ध सिद्धपीठ है। उसमें बहुत-से संतोंने समय-समयपर निवास करके तपस्या की है। जानने श्मशानभूमिमें प्रवेश करते ही भगवती ताराको प्रणाम किया। उन्होंने द्वारका नदीके तटपर तारापीठके निकट ही प्रसिद्ध अघोरी संत वामाक्षेपाका दर्शन किया और उनका विकराल रूप देखकर सहम गये।’

‘बाबा मेरे प्राण बचाइये देखिये, यह साँप मेरा पीछा कर रहा है।’ सज्जनने संत समर्थका दरवाजा खटखटाया। साँप भाग गया।’मैं क्या कर सकता हूँ, कालपर किसका वश चलता है; साँप तुम्हें काटेगा अवश्य, पर माँ ताराकी कृपासे तुम बच सकते हो।’ वामाने आश्वासन दिया। अन्तिम दिन था साँपके काटनेका। सज्जनको अपने प्राणकी आशा नहीं थी; फिर भी संतकी सर्वसमर्थतापर उनके मनमें सच्चा विश्वास था ।

वामाक्षेपाने कहा कि आधी रातको साँप तुम्हें काटेगा, पर तुम ताराका पवित्र नाम उस समय भी लेते रहना। उन्होंने एक लकीर खींच दी और उसीके भीतर रहनेका आदेश दिया।

साँप ठीक आधी रातको आया। उसने उनको काट खाया, पर सज्जन संत-वाक्यपर पूरा भरोसा कर ताराका पवित्र नाम उच्चारण करते रहे।

वामा इस दृश्यको देखते रहे। अचानक उनके सामने तारा प्रकट हो गयीं।

‘माँ! बचा लो मृत्युसे इसे।’ वामाका इतना कहना था कि साँपका विष उतर गया। सज्जनके प्राणकी रक्षा हो गयी। तारा अन्तर्धान हो गयी अपने सेवककी सर्वसमर्थता प्रमाणित करके। वामा उनके दर्शनसे निहाल थे।

It was just a few days ago, a Mahatma took a deep breath after seeing a gentleman in Hardwar. When asked, he told that a snake will bite you in a week, you will die. Mahatma ordered him to go to Banaras and said that a saint lives at Manikarnika Ghat, he will save your life. He went to Banaras; Mahatma of Banaras expressed his helplessness and gave permission to go to Tarapeeth.
“Mahatma Vamakshepa resides in Tarapeeth. He alone is able to save your life.” He came to Tarapeeth on the advice of Mahatma of Kashi.
“Tarapeeth is a famous Siddhapeeth in Bengal. Many saints have resided in it from time to time and done penance. On entering the cremation ground, Janane bowed down to Goddess Tara. He visited the famous Aghori saint Vamkshepa near Tarapeeth on the banks of river Dwarka and seeing his formidable form Got scared.
‘Baba save my life, look, this snake is following me.’ The gentleman knocked on the door of the saint’s supporter. The snake ran away. ‘What can I do, who has control over time; The snake will definitely bite you, but you can be saved by the grace of Mother Tara.’ Vamana assured. The last day was of snake bite. The gentleman had no hope of his life; Nevertheless, he had true faith in the omnipotence of the saint.
Vamakshepa said that at midnight the snake will bite you, but you should keep chanting the holy name of Tara even at that time. He drew a line and ordered to stay within it.
The snake came exactly at midnight. He bit them, but the gentleman kept chanting the holy name of Tara having complete faith in the words of the saint.
Vama kept watching this scene. Suddenly Tara appeared in front of him.
‘Mother! Save him from death.’ Vamaka had only to say that the snake’s venom was gone. The gentleman’s life was saved. Tara disappeared after proving the omnipotence of her servant. Vama was delighted by his darshan.
