People used to call him Kachi Baba. He was a Kachhi by caste and was called Baba not because of being a saint, but because of being old, according to the custom of that region. By the way, he used to work as a laborer in the garden, after working hard all day, in the evening, under the Malti-Kunj on the banks of the lake, he used to eat bread baked and used to sleep there.
If someone had to go to the toilet at night, there was a facility to wash hands at Malti Kunjwale Ghat. As soon as we reached the Ghat, we could hear clearly – ‘Ram, Ram, Ram’. It was not someone’s chanting sound. This clear sound used to come from the breath of Kachhibaba who was asleep. One day Kachi Baba came to the city and expressed his desire to eat Rasgulla to the master of the garden. Rasgulla was fed to his stomach, he was asked again the next day – ‘Kachhi Baba! Will you eat Rasgulla?
Kachi Baba said – ‘ Babu! I will never commit such a sin again. My Ramji did not sleep at night after eating sweets.’
Everyday he used to get the darshan of old Shriramji. He never ate sweets again.
