सद्भाव

सम्राट् नेपोलियन युद्धमें पराजित हो गये थे। अंग्रेजोंने उन्हें बंदी बना लिया था। एक अंग्रेजी जहाजसे वे सेंट हेलेना द्वीप भेजे जा रहे थे। जहाजके छोटे कर्मचारी नाविक आदि फ्रान्सीसी भाषा बोल-समझ लेते थे। अनेक बार नेपोलियन उनसे दुभाषियेका काम लेते थे। एक बार एक नाविकसे उन्होंने कुछ देर बातें कीं और अन्तमें बोले-‘कल तुम मेरे साथ भोजन करना।’

बेचारे नाविकके लिये यह अकल्पित बात थी। जहाजके ही कप्तान आदि उच्च कर्मचारी उसे भोजनके लिये अपनी मेजपर नहीं बैठने दे सकते थे, फिरफ्रान्सके सम्राट्के साथ भोजन करनेकी बात तो बहुत बड़ी थी। उसने कहा- ‘आपकी उदारताके लिये धन्यवाद! परंतु जहाजके अधिकारी ऐसा होने नहीं देंगे।’

नेपोलियनने कहा – ‘मैं स्वयं पूछता हूँ । ‘

नेपोलियनके पूछनेपर जहाजके कप्तानने कहा ‘जब आप स्वयं उसके साथ भोजन करना चाहते हैं, तब इसमें कोई बाधा नहीं होगी।’

उस नाविकको नेपोलियनने अपने साथ भोजन कराया, इससे उसे कितनी प्रसन्नता हुई होगी, यह समझा जा सकता है। – सु0 सिं0

Emperor Napoleon was defeated in the war. The British had taken him prisoner. They were being sent to St. Helena Island by an English ship. The small staff of the ship, the sailors etc. used to speak and understand the French language. Many times Napoleon used to take the work of interpreter from him. Once he talked to a sailor for a while and finally said – ‘Tomorrow you have dinner with me.’
This was unimaginable for the poor sailor. The ship’s captain etc. high staff could not allow him to sit on their table for food, then the matter of having dinner with the French emperor was very big. He said- ‘Thank you for your generosity! But the ship’s officers will not allow this to happen.’
Napoleon said – ‘ I myself ask. ,
When asked by Napoleon, the captain of the ship said ‘When you yourself want to dine with him, then there will be no hindrance.’
