मानव के उद्भव से सम्बंधित उल्लेख श्रुति (वेद) में मिलता है। स्वर्गादि उच्च लोक, अंतरिक्ष, पृथ्वी, जल आदि की उत्पत्ति हो चुकी तब परमात्मा ने लोकपालों की रचना का विचार किया।
इस रचना का विचार आते ही उन्होंने सर्वप्रथम प्रकाश अणु पैदा किये। यह अणु अंडाकार थे और उसमें पुरूष के लक्षण थे, फिर उस अण्डे में परमात्मा ने छेद किया जो मुख बना। मुख से वाणी, वाणी से अग्नि उत्पन्न हुई।
इसके बाद दो छेद किये जो नासिका कहलाये। उससे प्राण की उत्पत्ति हुई, प्राण से वायु और नेत्र के छिद्र बनें। उनमें सुनने की शक्ति उत्पन्न हुई, श्रोतेन्द्रिय के द्वारा दिशाएं प्रकटीं, फिर त्वचा उत्पन्न हुई।
त्वचा से रोम, रोम से औषधियां और फिर हृदय। हृदय से मन, मन से चन्द्रमा प्रकट हुआ। इसके बाद नाभि, नाभि से अपान देवता और अपान देवता से मृत्यु देवता प्रकट हुए। फिर उपस्थ, उपस्थ से रेत, रेत से जल की उत्पत्ति हुई।
इस प्रकार उत्पन्न हुए देवतागण अभी तक अपने सूक्ष्म रूप में थे। परमात्मा ने उनमें भूख और प्यास की अनुभूति भी उत्पन्न कर दी थी किन्तु वे संसार-समुद्र में निराश्रय पड़े थे, उन्हें रहने के लिए योग्य स्थान का अभाव खटक रहा था।
उसके लिए उन्होंने परमात्मा से प्रार्थना की तब परमात्मा ने उन्हें गाय का शरीर दिखाया, उस शरीर को देवताओं ने पसन्द नहीं किया। तब उन्हें घोड़े का शरीर दिखाया, वह भी उन्हें अच्छा नहीं लगा। बहुत से शरीर विधाता ने देवताओं को दिखाये पर वे उन्हें पसंद न आये। तब परमात्मा ने उन्हें मनुष्य शरीर दिखाया और यह देवताओं को पसन्द आ गया।
अग्नि उसमें वाणी बनकर घुस गया, वायु प्राण बनकर नासिका में, सूर्य चक्षु बनकर नेत्र गोलकों में प्रविष्ट हुआ, दिशाएं क्षेत्र बनकर कानों में घुसीं, औषधि रोम बनकर त्वचा में पहुंची, चन्दमा मन बनकर हृदय में स्थित हुआ, मृत्यु अपान बनकर नाभि में, जल रेत बनकर उपस्थ में स्थित हो गया।
इस तरह मनुष्य की रचना परमात्मा ने सम्भव की, फिर भी मनुष्य सर्वसमर्थ होते हुए भी हीन भावना से ग्रसित क्यों है, इसका अनुमान लगाना असम्भव है।

Mention related to the origin of human beings is found in Shruti (Veda). After the creation of heaven, higher world, space, earth, water etc., God thought of creating Lokpalas.
As soon as the idea of this creation came, he first created light molecules. These molecules were oval and had the characteristics of a man, then God made a hole in that egg which became the mouth. Speech came from mouth and fire came from speech.
After this, two holes were made which were called nostrils. From it came life; from life came air and eye holes. The power of hearing arose in them, directions appeared through the sense of hearing, then skin arose.
From the skin to the hair, from the hair to the medicines and then to the heart. The mind appeared from the heart, the moon appeared from the mind. After this, the navel appeared, from the navel appeared Apana Devta and from Apana Devta appeared the death god. Then Subsatha was created, from Substha came sand, from sand came water.
The gods thus born were still in their subtle form. God had created in them the feeling of hunger and thirst, but they were helpless in the ocean of the world, they were suffering from the lack of a suitable place to live.
He prayed to God for that, then God showed him the body of a cow, the gods did not like that body. Then he was shown the body of the horse, he also did not like that. The creator showed many bodies to the gods but they did not like them. Then God showed them the human body and the gods liked it.
Agni entered it in the form of speech, air became life in the nostrils, Sun became the eyes and entered the eyeballs, directions became the spheres and entered the ears, medicine became hair and reached the skin, moon became the mind and settled in the heart, death became Apana in the navel, The water became sand and settled in the present.
In this way the creation of man was made possible by God, yet it is impossible to guess why man, despite being omnipotent, is suffering from inferiority complex.
