भगवन्नाम- माहात्म्य

(स्कन्द-पुराण से)

कृष्ण कृष्णेति कृष्णेति यो मां स्मरति नित्यशः।
जलं भित्वा यथा पद्मं नरकादुद्वराम्यहम्‌।।

भगवान्‌ विष्णु ने ब्रह्माजी से कहा- तुमने जो पूछा था सो कहता हूं, मन लगाकर सुनो। यह अत्यन्त गोपनीय विषय है, तुम्हारी प्रीति देखकर ही कह रहा हूं।

जो मनुष्य मन, कर्म और वाणी से मेरे शरणागत है उसके सब मनोरथ पूरे होते हैं। जो मनुष्य ‘कृष्ण कृष्ण’ सम्बोधन करके सदा मेरा स्मरण करता है, जैसे जल को भेदकर कमल ऊपर निकल आता है, वैसे ही मैं उसका संसार-सागर से उद्धार कर देता हूं।

मरते समय जो ‘कृष्ण’ नाम उच्चारण करते हैं, वे पापी होने पर भी यमराज का दर्शन नहीं पाते। मरण समय ‘कृष्ण’ नाम स्मरण करनेवाले निस्सन्देह मुझे प्राप्त होते हैं। मृत्यु समय जो विवश मनुष्य ‘महान्‌ कृष्ण को नमस्कार है’ – ऐसा उच्चारण करता है वह निश्चय ही मेरा पद पाता है।

‘श्रीकृष्ण’ नाम उच्चारण करके प्राण त्यागनेवाले को यमदूत दूर से ही देखा करते हैं। ‘कृष्ण कृष्ण’ कीर्तन करते रास्ते या श्मशान में मृत्यु होने पर भी मनुष्य मुझे प्राप्त होता है। जो मेरे भक्त का दर्शन करते हुए मरता है, वह तो बिना स्मरण के मुक्त हो जाता है-

दर्शनान्मम भक्तानो मृत्युमाप्नोति यः क्वचित्‌।
बिना मत्स्मरणात्पुत्र ! मुक्तिमेति स मानवः।।

He who remembers Me daily as Krishna, Krishna, Krishna. Just as I break through water and deliver a lotus from hell

Lord Vishnu said to Brahmaji- I am telling you what you had asked, listen carefully. This is a very confidential matter, I am saying this only after seeing your love.

The person who surrenders to me through mind, action and speech, all his wishes are fulfilled. The person who always remembers me by addressing me as ‘Krishna Krishna’, just as a lotus breaks through the water and comes up, in the same way I save him from the ocean of the world.

Those who pronounce the name ‘Krishna’ while dying, even if they are sinners, do not get the darshan of Yamraj. Those who remember the name ‘Krishna’ at the time of death undoubtedly attain me. The helpless person who utters ‘Namaskar to the great Krishna’ at the time of death certainly attains my position.

Yamdoots see the person who gives up his life by reciting the name ‘Shri Krishna’ from a distance. Even if a person dies on the road or in a cremation ground while chanting ‘Krishna Krishna’, I attain him. One who dies while having darshan of my devotee, becomes free without any remembrance –

Whoever sometimes dies by seeing My devotees Without remembering me, my son! That human being attains liberation.
