एक बार नारद जी ने भगवान से प्रश्न किया कि प्रभु आपके भक्त गरीब क्यों होते हैं?
तो भगवान बोले – “नारद जी ! मेरी कृपा को समझना बड़ा कठिन है।” इतना कहकर भगवान नारद के साथ साधु भेष में पृथ्वी पर पधारे और एक सेठ जी के घर भिक्षा मांगने के लिए दरवाजा खटखटाने लगे। सेठ जी बिगड़ते हुए दरवाजे की तरफ आए और देखा तो दो साधु खड़े हैं।
भगवान बोले – “भैया ! बड़े जोरों की भूख लगी है। थोड़ा सा खाना मिल जाए।”
सेठ जी बिगड़कर बोले “तुम दोनों को शर्म नहीं आती। तुम्हारे बाप का माल है ? कर्म करके खाने में शर्म आती है, जाओ-जाओ किसी होटल में खाना मांगना।”
नारद जी बोले – “देखा प्रभु ! यह आपके भक्तों और आपका निरादर करने वाला सुखी प्राणी है। इसको अभी शाप दीजिये।” नारद जी की बात सुनते ही भगवान ने उस सेठ को अधिक धन सम्पत्ति बढ़ाने वाला वरदान दे दिया।
इसके बाद भगवान नारद जी को लेकर एक बुढ़िया मैया के घर में गए। जिसकी एक छोटी सी झोपड़ी थी, जिसमें एक गाय के अलावा और कुछ भी नहीं था। जैसे ही भगवान ने भिक्षा के लिए आवाज लगायी, बुढ़िया मैया बड़ी खुशी के साथ बाहर आयी। दोनों सन्तों को आसन देकर बिठाया और उनके पीने के लिए दुध लेकर आयीं और बोली – “प्रभु ! मेरे पास और कुछ नहीं है, इसे ही स्वीकार कीजिये।”
भगवान ने बड़े प्रेम से स्वीकार किया। तब नारद जी ने भगवान से कहा – “प्रभु ! आपके भक्तों की इस संसार में देखो कैसी दुर्दशा है, मेरे पास तो देखी नहीं जाती। यह बेचारी बुढ़िया मैया आपका भजन करती है और अतिथि सत्कार भी करती है। आप इसको कोई अच्छा सा आशीर्वाद दीजिए।”
भगवान ने थोड़ा सोचकर उसकी गाय को मरने का अभिशाप दे डाला।” यह सुनकर नारद जी बिगड़ गए और कहा – “प्रभु जी ! यह आपने क्या किया ?”
भगवान बोले – “यह बुढ़िया मैया मेरा बहुत भजन करती है। कुछ दिनों में इसकी मृत्यु हो जाएगी और मरते समय इसको गाय की चिन्ता सताएगी कि मेरे मरने के बाद मेरी गाय को कोई कसाई न ले जाकर काट दे, मेरे मरने के बाद इसको कौन देखेगा ?
तब इस मैया को मरते समय मेरा स्मरण न होकर बस गाय की चिन्ता रहेगी और वह मेरे धाम को न जाकर गाय की योनि में चली जाएगी।”
उधर सेठ को धन बढ़ाने वाला वरदान दिया कि मरने वक़्त धन तथा तिजोरी का ध्यान करेगा और वह तिजोरी के नीचे साँप बनेगा।
प्रकृति का नियम है जिस चीज मे अति लगाव रहेगा यह जीव मरने के बाद बही जनम लेता है ओर बहुत दुख भोगता है
अतः अपना चिंतन प्रभू की तरफ अधिक रखे …

Once Narad ji asked God that Lord, why are your devotees poor? So God said – “Narad ji! It is very difficult to understand my grace.” Having said this, Lord Narad came to earth in the guise of a monk and started knocking on the door of a Sethji’s house to beg for alms. Seth ji got upset and came towards the door and saw two sadhus standing there. God said – “Brother! I am very hungry. Let me get some food.” Seth ji spoiled and said, “You both don’t feel ashamed. Is it your father’s property? You feel ashamed to eat after doing your work, go and ask for food in a hotel.” Narad ji said – “Look Lord! This is a happy creature who disrespects your devotees and you. Curse him now.” As soon as he listened to Narad ji, God gave that Seth a boon to increase his wealth. After this, Lord Narad went to an old mother’s house with him. Who had a small hut, in which there was nothing but a cow. As soon as God called for alms, the old mother came out with great joy. Gave both the saints a seat and brought milk for them to drink and said – “Lord! I have nothing else, accept this only.” God accepted with great love. Then Narad ji said to God – “Lord! Look at the plight of your devotees in this world, I can’t see it. This poor old mother worships you and also welcomes guests. You give her some good blessings. Give it.” God thought a little and cursed his cow to die.” Hearing this, Narad ji got upset and said – “Lord! What did you do?” God said – “This old mother worships me a lot. She will die in a few days and at the time of death she will be worried about the cow that after my death no butcher will take my cow and slaughter it, who will take care of her after my death? Will you see? Then at the time of death this mother will not remember me but will only worry about the cow and instead of going to my abode, she will go to the cow’s vagina. On the other hand, Seth was given a boon to increase wealth that at the time of death, he would meditate on money and vault and he would become a snake under the vault. It is the law of nature, the thing in which there is excessive attachment, this creature takes birth after death and suffers a lot. So keep your thoughts more towards the Lord.
