गांव के सरकारी स्कूल में संस्कृत की क्लास चल रही थी। गुरूजी दिवाली की छुट्टियों का कार्य बता रहे थे।
तभी शायद किसी शरारती विद्यार्थी के पटाखे से स्कूल के स्टोर रूम में पड़ी दरी और कपड़ो में आग लग गयी। देखते ही देखते आग ने भीषण रूप धारण कर लिया। वहां पड़ा सारा फर्निचर भी स्वाहा हो गया।
सभी विद्यार्थी पास के घरो से, हेडपम्पों से जो बर्तन हाथ में आया उसी में पानी भर भर कर आग बुझाने लगे।
आग शांत होने के काफी देर बाद स्टोर रूम में घुसे तो सभी विद्यार्थियों की दृष्टि स्टोर रूम की बालकनी (छज्जे) पर जल कर कोयला बने पक्षी की ओर गयी।
पक्षी की मुद्रा देख कर स्पष्ट था कि पक्षी ने उड़ कर अपनी जान बचाने का प्रयास तक नही किया था और वह स्वेच्छा से आग में भस्म हो गया था।
सभी को बहुत आश्चर्य हुआ।
एक विद्यार्थी ने उस जल कर कोयला बने पक्षी को धकेला तो उसके नीचे से तीन नवजात चूजे दिखाई दिए, जो सकुशल थे और चहक रहे थे।
उन्हें आग से बचाने के लिए पक्षी ने अपने पंखों के नीचे छिपा लिया और अपनी जान देकर अपने चूजों को बचा लिया था।
एक विद्यार्थी ने संस्कृत वाले गुरूजी से प्रश्न किया –
“गुरूजी, इस पक्षी को अपने बच्चो से कितना मोह था, कि इसने अपनी जान तक दे दी ?”
गुरूजी ने तनिक विचार कर कहा –
“नहीं, यह मोह नहीं है अपितु माँ के ममत्व की पराकाष्ठा है, मोह करने वाला ऐसी विकट स्थिति में अपनी जान बचाता और भाग जाता।”
भगवान ने माँ को ममता दी है और इस दुनिया में माँ की ममता से बढ़कर कुछ भी नहीं है।

Sanskrit class was going on in the government school of the village. Guruji was telling about the work for Diwali holidays.
Then, probably due to the firecrackers of some mischievous student, the carpet and clothes lying in the store room of the school caught fire. Within no time the fire took a terrible form. All the furniture lying there was also destroyed.
All the students started extinguishing the fire by filling whatever vessels they got from nearby houses with water from head pumps.
When we entered the store room long after the fire subsided, the eyes of all the students went towards the bird turned into burnt coal on the balcony of the store room.
Looking at the posture of the bird, it was clear that the bird had not even tried to save its life by flying and had willingly got burnt in the fire.
Everyone was very surprised.
When a student pushed the bird that was burnt to coal, three newborn chicks were seen from beneath it, which were safe and chirping.
To save them from the fire, the bird hid them under its wings and sacrificed its life to save its chicks.
A student asked a question to the Sanskrit teacher – “Guruji, how much was this bird’s love for its children, that it even gave up its life?”
Guruji thought for a while and said – “No, this is not infatuation but it is the height of mother’s love. In such a difficult situation, the one who is infatuated would save his life and run away.”
God has given love to mother and there is nothing greater than mother’s love in this world.
