राजा परीक्षित ने कहा – भगवन ! आप पहले (दिव्तीय सकन्ध में) निवृतिमार्ग का वर्णन कर चुके हैं तथा यह बतला चुके हैं कि उसके द्वारा अर्चिरादि मार्ग से जिव क्रमश: ब्रह्मलोक में पहुँचता है और फिर ब्रह्मा के साथ मुक्त हो जाता है ||१|| मुनिवर इसके सिवा आपने उस प्रवृति मार्ग का भी (तृतीय सकन्ध में) भलीभाँति वर्णन किया है, जिससे त्रिगुणमय स्वर्ग आदि लोकों की प्राप्ति होती है और प्रकृति का सम्बन्ध न छूटने के कारण जीवों को बार-बार जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्कर में आना पड़ता है ||२|| आपने यह भी बतलाया कि अधर्म करने से अनेक नरकों की प्राप्ति होती है और (पाँचवें सकन्ध में) उनका विस्तार से वर्णन भी किया | (चौथे सकन्ध में) आपने उस प्रथम मन्वन्तर का वर्णन किया, जिसके अधिपति स्वायम्भुव मनु थे ||३|| साथ ही (चौथे और पाँचवें सकन्ध में) प्रियव्रत और उतानपाद के वंशों तथा चरित्रों का एवं द्वीप, वर्ष, समुद्र, पर्वत, नदी, उद्यान और विभिन्न दविपों के वृक्षों का निरूपण किया ||४|| भूमंडल की स्थिति, उसके द्वीप-वर्षादि विभाग, उनके लक्षण तथा परिमाण, नक्षत्रों की स्थिति, अतल-वितल आदि भू-विवर (सात पाताल) और भगवान् ने इन सबकी जिस प्रकार सृष्टि की – उसका वर्णन भी सुनाया ||५|| महाभाग ! अब मैं वह उपाय जानना चाहता हूँ, जिसके अनुष्ठान से मनुष्यों को अनेकानेक भयंकर यातनाओं से पूर्ण नरक में न जाना पड़े | आप कृपा करके उसका उपदेश कीजिये ||६||
श्रीशुकदेवजी ने कहा – मनुष्य मन, वाणी और शरीर से पाप करता है | यदि वह उन पापों का इसी जन्म में प्रायश्चित न कर ले, तो मरने के बाद उसे अवश्य ही उन भयंकर यातनापूर्ण नरकों में जाना पड़ता है, जिनका वर्णन मैंने तुम्हे सुनाया ||७|| इसलिये बड़ी सावधानी और सजगता के साथ रोग एवं मृत्यु के पहले ही शीघ्र-से-शीघ्र पापों की गुरुता और लघुता पर विचार करके उनका प्रायश्चित कर डालना चाहिए, जैसे मर्मज्ञ चिकित्सक रोगों का कारण और उनकी गुरुता-लघुता जानकर झटपट उनकी चिकित्सा कर डालता है ||८||

King Parikshit said – Lord! You have already described the Nivruti Marga (in the second relation) and have told that through it the Jiva gradually reaches the Brahmaloka through the Archiradi Marga and then becomes liberated with Brahma ||1|| Apart from this, you have also very well described the path of tendency (in the third section) by which one attains the three worlds of heaven etc. ||2|| You also told that by committing adharma many hells are attained and (in the fifth sankandha) they have also been described in detail. (In the fourth stanza) You have described the first Manvantara, whose ruler was Swayambhuva Manu ||3|| Also (in the fourth and fifth sankandha) the lineages and characters of Priyavrata and Utanapada, and the island, year, sea, mountain, river, garden and trees of various islands. The condition of the earth, its island-rainfall division, their characteristics and magnitudes, the position of the constellations, the Atal-Vital etc., the earth-holes (seven underworlds) and the way God created all these – also narrated the description of them ||5|| Great! Now I want to know the remedy, by whose rituals humans do not have to go to hell full of many terrible tortures. You please preach him ||6|| Shri Shukdevji said – Man commits sin with mind, speech and body. If he does not atone for those sins in this life, then after death he must go to those terrible torturous hells, which I described to you ||7|| Therefore, with great care and awareness, before disease and death, at the earliest, considering the gravity and smallness of sins, they should atone for them, just as a penetrating doctor, knowing the cause of diseases and their gravity-smallness, cures them instantly. ||8|| rest in upcoming posts.
