मध्यकालीन इतिहासमें अकबर बादशाहके सेनापति रहीम खानखानाका नाम बहुत प्रसिद्ध है। उनपर सरस्वती और लक्ष्मी दोनोंकी कृपा समानरूपसे थी। वे उच्चकोटिके दानी और काव्यममं थे।
एक समय वे पालकीसे कहीं जा रहे थे। रास्ते में एक व्यक्तिने उनकी पालकीमें पैचसेरी (पाँचसेरका लोहेका बाट) रख दी। खानखानाको इससे तनिक भी क्रोध नहीं आया और इस कार्यके लिये उन्होंने उतनेही तौलका सोना ब्राह्मणको दिलवा दिया। साथमें चलनेवाले सैनिक आपसमें इस घटनाकी आलोचना करने लगे।
‘भाई! इस मनुष्यने मुझे पारस समझकर पँचसेरीसे कसना चाहा था, इसे सोनाके सिवा दूसरी वस्तु दी ही क्या जाती।’ रहीम खानखानाकी दानप्रियता और उदारता से लोग आश्चर्यचकित हो गये।

In medieval history, the name of Rahim Khankhana, the commander of Emperor Akbar, is very famous. He was equally blessed by both Saraswati and Lakshmi. He was a high class donor and poet.
Once upon a time he was going somewhere in a palanquin. On the way, a person put Paccheri (an iron weight of five pieces) in his palanquin. Khankhana did not get angry at all and for this work he got the same weight of gold given to the Brahmin. The soldiers walking together started criticizing this incident among themselves.
‘Brother! This man had tried to strangle me with Panchseri, mistaking me for Paras, what could have been given to him other than gold.’ People were surprised by the charity and generosity of Rahim Khankhana.
