नास्तिक और आस्तिक

भारतके मूर्धन्य वैज्ञानिक, नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता, भारतरत्न चन्द्रशेखर वेंकटरामन् अत्यन्त व्यस्त होते हुए भी ईश्वरकी आराधना और अपने कुलके अनुरूप धर्माचरणमें प्रतिदिन कुछ समय अवश्य देते थे। एक बार जब वे संध्यावन्दन करके उठे तो एक अन्य भारतीय वैज्ञानिक, जो उनसे मिलने आया था और ईश्वरमें विश्वास नहीं रखता था, कहने लगा-‘श्रीमान् ! आप वैज्ञानिक होकर भी ऐसी बातोंपर विश्वास करते हैं, जो विज्ञानसे प्रमाणित नहीं हैं। आप प्रतिदिन धर्मकर्मके लिये आधा घण्टा नष्ट करते हैं, किस प्रयोजनसे ?’ वेंकटरामन्ने उत्तर दिया- ‘अपना परलोक सुधारनेके लिये। मृत्युके बाद सद्गति हो इसलिये।’ नास्तिक वैज्ञानिकने बड़ी हिकारतसे उत्तर दिया- ‘कहाँ है परलोक ? मृत्युके बाद क्या होगा, किसने देखा है? आपको मालूम है क्या ? कहीं है क्या? आपने देखा है क्या ?’
वेंकटरामन्ने संजीदगीसे कहा- ‘बन्धु! मैं भी वैज्ञानिक हूँ और यह मानता हूँ कि न तो ईश्वरको किसीने देखा है, न इस बातपर मुझे विश्वास है कि परलोक है और मृत्युके बाद ऐसे धर्म-कर्मसे कोई स्वर्ग जा सकता है। मैं मानता हूँ कि सत्यापित किये बिना किसी बातको अन्धानुकरणके रूपमें नहीं मानना चाहिये ।
अब मैं पूछता हूँ कि क्या आपके विज्ञानने सत्यापित कर दिया है कि ईश्वर नहीं है? क्या निश्चित कर लिया है कि मृत्युके बाद यह होगा, वह नहीं होगा।’
नास्तिक वैज्ञानिकने उत्तर दिया- ‘ये सभी बातें अनिश्चित हैं। प्रमाणित नहीं। आप भी इन्हें मानने लगे ? | कौन कह सकता है कि ईश्वर है या नहीं? मृत्युके बाद क्या होगा ?’
श्रीवेंकटरामन्जीने कहा कि यह सच है कि यह
बात बिलकुल अनिश्चित है कि ईश्वरका
परलोकका, पुनर्जन्मका, मृत्युके बादकी गतिका, कोई अस्तित्व भी है या नहीं यह सब सम्भावनामात्र है। हो सकता है कि ये नहीं हों, यह भी हो सकता है कि ये हों। यदि ये सब मिथ्या हैं और नहीं हैं तो प्रतिदिन मेरा आधा घण्टा धर्माचरणमें व्यर्थ नष्ट हुआ माना जायगा, कोई बात नहीं, कभी कभी व्यर्थके काम में कुछ समय नष्ट हो जाय तो अनर्थ नहीं हो जाता। पर कल्पना करो कि यदि कहीं ये सब सत्य हो, वास्तवमें हों तो क्या होगा? यदि इस सम्भावनाके नामपर हम अपने-आपको किसी दैनिक नियमसे बाँध लें तो क्या बुरा है? यदि इसके बिना परलोकमें दुर्गतिकी स्थिति हुई तो आपका क्या होगा ?’ उस नास्तिक वैज्ञानिकके पास इसका कोई उत्तर नहीं था। हो भी नहीं सकता।

India’s famous scientist, Nobel Prize winner, Bharat Ratna Chandrashekhar Venkataraman, despite being very busy, used to spend some time daily in worshiping God and doing religious deeds according to his clan. Once he got up after doing sandhyavandan, another Indian scientist, who had come to meet him and did not believe in God, started saying – ‘Sir! Despite being a scientist, you believe in such things, which are not proved by science. You waste half an hour daily for religious work, for what purpose?’ Venkataraman replied – ‘To improve my hereafter. So there should be salvation after death.’ The atheist scientist replied with great contempt – ‘Where is the other world? Who has seen what will happen after death? Do you know? Is it somewhere? Have you seen it?’
Venkatramanne said seriously – ‘Brother! I am also a scientist and believe that no one has seen God, nor do I believe that there is a world beyond and after death one can go to heaven by doing such religious deeds. I agree that without verifying anything should not be taken as a blind imitation.
Now I ask, has your science verified that there is no God? Have you made sure that this will happen after death, that will not happen.’
The atheist scientist replied – ‘All these things are uncertain. Not certified. Have you started believing them too? , Who can say whether there is a God or not? What will happen after death?’

Whether or not there is an existence of the afterlife, rebirth, the dynamics after death, all this is just a possibility. It may not be, it may also be that it is. If all these are false and are not, then half an hour of mine every day will be considered as wasted in the pursuit of righteousness, no problem, sometimes if some time is wasted in useless work, then it does not become a disaster. But imagine what would happen if all these were true, in reality? If in the name of this possibility we bind ourselves to some daily routine, then what is wrong? What will happen to you if there is a situation of misery in the hereafter without it?’ That atheist scientist had no answer to this. Can’t even be.
