अभिमन्युनन्दन राजा परीक्षित बड़े धर्मात्मा थे। एक दिन इन्हें मालूम हुआ कि मेरे राज्यमें कलियुग आ गया है। बस, ये उसे ढूँढ़नेके लिये निकल पड़े। एक स्थानपर उन्होंने देखा कि राजोचित वस्त्राभूषणसे सुसज्जित कोई शूद्र गौ और बैलको डंडोंसे पीट रहा है। बैलके तीन पैर टूट चुके थे, एक ही अवशेष था। उनका परिचय प्राप्त करनेपर मालूम हुआ कि यह बैल धर्म है, पृथ्वी गौ है और कलियुग ही शूद्र है। उन्होंने उस कलिको मारनेके लिये खड्ग उठाया, परंतु वह उनके चरणोंपर गिरकर गिड़गिड़ाने लगा। राजाको दया आ गयी। उन्होंने उसकी प्रार्थनास्वीकार करके और उसका यह गुण देखकर कि कलियुगमें और किसी साधन, योग, यज्ञ आदिकी आवश्यकता न होगी, केवल भगवान्के नामोंसे ही प्राणियोंका स्वार्थ, परमार्थ आदि सम्पन्न हो जायगा, उसे रहनेके लिये जूआ, शराब, स्त्री, हिंसा, सोना आदि स्थान बता दिये; क्योंकि इन स्थानोंमें झूठ, मद, अपवित्रता तथा क्रूरतादि दोष रहते हैं। कुछ दिनोंके बाद उस समयकी प्रथाके अनुसार वे शिकार खेलने निकले। एक मृगके पीछे दौड़ते हुए दूर निकल गये। थकावट और प्यासके कारण वे घबरा | उठे। पानी पीनेकी इच्छासे एक ऋषिके आश्रमपरगये, परंतु वे ध्यानमग्न थे। इनकी याचनासे उनका ध्यान भङ्ग नहीं हुआ। इसी समय कलियुगने इनपर आक्रमण किया। इनको क्रोध आ गया और क्रोधवश होकर ऋषिका परिहास करनेके लिये इन्होंने उन ध्यानमग्न ऋषिके गलेमें एक मरा साँप पहना दिया और आवेशमें ही राजधानी लौट आये।
जब कुछ समय बाद इन्हें होश आया, तब ये पश्चात्ताप करने लगे और इस अपराधका दण्ड भोगनेके लिये उद्यत होकर उसकी प्रतीक्षा करने लगे। उधर कई ऋषि- बालकोंने जाकर नदी किनारे खेलते हुए उनके बच्चेसे यह बात कह सुनायी। उसेक्रोध आ गया और उसने शाप दे दिया कि आजके सातवें दिन तक्षक साँप परीक्षित्को डँसेगा। अपमानके कारण उद्विग्न होकर वह रोने लगा। उसका रोना सुनकर धीरे-धीरे कुछ समयके बाद ऋषिका ध्यान टूटा । उन्होंने सब बात सुनकर अपने लड़केको बहुत डाँटा । संसारके एकमात्र धार्मिक सम्राट् हमारे आश्रममें आये और उनका सत्कार तो दूर रहा, अपमान हुआ और उन्हें मृत्युतकका शाप दे दिया गया! आगे आनेवाली अधर्मकी वृद्धिकी चिन्तासे ऋषि चिन्तित हो उठे, परंतु अब तो शाप दिया जा चुका था। राजाके पास संदेश भेज दिया। इसी शापसे परीक्षित्की मृत्यु हुई ।
Abhimanyunandan Raja Parikshit was a great pious soul. One day he came to know that Kali Yuga has come in his kingdom. Well, they set out to find him. At one place he saw that a Shudra dressed in royal robes was beating a cow and a bull with a stick. The three legs of the bull were broken, only one was left. After getting his introduction, I came to know that this is bull religion, earth is cow and Kaliyug is Shudra. He raised the sword to kill that bud, but he fell at his feet and started pleading. The king felt pity. By accepting his prayer and seeing his quality that in Kaliyuga there will be no need for any other means, yoga, yagya etc., only in the name of God the selfishness, charity etc. told; Because in these places lie, pride, impurity and cruelty etc. defects reside. After a few days, according to the practice of that time, they went out to play hunting. Ran away after running after an antelope. They panicked due to exhaustion and thirst. Get up With the desire to drink water, he went to the hermitage of a sage, but he was engrossed in meditation. His request did not distract his attention. At the same time Kaliyug attacked them. He got angry and in order to make fun of the sage, he tied a dead snake around the neck of that meditative sage and returned to the capital in a fit of rage.
When he regained consciousness after some time, then he started repenting and started waiting for the punishment of this crime. On the other side, many sages and children went and told this thing to their child while playing on the bank of the river. He got angry and cursed that on the seventh day today the Takshak snake would bite Parikshit. Distraught because of the insult, he started crying. Hearing her cry, slowly after some time the sage’s attention was broken. Hearing everything, he scolded his boy a lot. The only religious emperor of the world came to our ashram and was not welcomed, insulted and cursed till death! The sages were worried about the future increase of unrighteousness, but now the curse had been given. Message sent to the king. Parikshit died due to this curse.
