जार्ज वाशिंगटनका त्याग
पहले संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका इंग्लैण्डके अधीन था। इंग्लैण्डकी दासतासे मुक्ति पानेके लिये अमेरिकाको एक युद्ध लड़ना पड़ा था; जो इतिहासमें अमेरिकाके स्वातन्त्र्य युद्धके नामसे प्रसिद्ध है। इस युद्धमें अमेरिका विजयी रहा। इस विजयका सारा श्रेय जार्ज वाशिंगटन (1732 1799 ई0) को था। वाशिंगटन एक लोकप्रिय नेता और सफल सेनानायक थे। अपने सैनिकोंमें वे बहुत ही लोकप्रिय थे। अमरीकी सैनिक उनके लिये प्राण देते थे। इस प्रेम और भक्तिका फल यह हुआ कि कुछ सैनिक अधिकारियोंने चुपके-चुपके इस बातकी तैयारी प्रारम्भ कर दी कि जार्ज वाशिंगटनको संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाका सम्राट् घोषित किया जाय और उनसे एक नये राजवंशकी स्थापना हो। जब सेनाका अधिकांश भाग इसके लिये
तैयार कर लिया गया, तब इस मामलेमें जो सबसे अधिक उत्साह दिखला रहे थे, उन कर्नल निकोलाने वाशिंगटनको इस शुभ अवसरके लिये तैयार हो जानेको लिखा । वाशिंगटनने पत्र प्राप्त करके निकोलाको पत्रका जो मुँहतोड़ उत्तर लिखा, उसका कुछ अंश इस प्रकार है

श्रीमान् !
….मैं श्रीमान्को विश्वास दिलाता हूँ कि सारे युद्धके दौरान मुझे किसी भी घटनासे इतना कष्ट नहीं पहुँचा, जितना कि इस समाचारसे कि सेनामें इस प्रकारकी विचारधारा चल रही है, जैसा कि आपने अपने पत्रमें प्रकट किया है। मैं ऐसे विचारोंसे घृणा करता हूँ और उनकी कठोर निन्दा करता हूँ।
मैं नहीं समझ पाता कि मेरे किस आचरणसे आपको मेरे सामने ऐसा प्रस्ताव रखनेका साहस हुआ यदि आपको अपने देशका, अपना या आनेवाली संततियोंका कुछ भी ध्यान है, यदि आपके हृदयमें मेरे प्रति कुछ भी सम्मानकी भावना है तो आप इस प्रकारके विचारोंको अपने मनसे निकाल दीजिये। प्रणाम!

जार्ज वाशिंगटन अमेरिकाके प्रथम राष्ट्रपति थे। 1 दुबारा भी वे ही राष्ट्रपति चुने गये। तीसरी बार भी जनता सर्वसम्मति से उन्हींको राष्ट्रपति बनाना चाहती थी, परंतु उन्होंने यह कहकर उस पदको अस्वीकार कर दिया कि ‘बार-बार एक ही व्यक्तिके राष्ट्रपति बननेसे कहीं राजतन्त्र या अधिनायकवादकी नींव न पड़ जाय।’

Earlier the United States was under England. America had to fight a war to get freedom from the slavery of England; Which is famous in history as America’s War of Independence. America was victorious in this war. All the credit for this victory was to George Washington (1732-1799 AD). Washington was a popular leader and a successful general. He was very popular among his soldiers. American soldiers used to give their lives for them. The result of this love and devotion was that some military officers secretly started preparing that George Washington should be declared the Emperor of the United States and a new dynasty should be established from him. when the majority of the army
When preparations were made, Colonel Nicolae, who was showing the most enthusiasm in this matter, wrote to Washington to get ready for this auspicious occasion. Washington received the letter and wrote a befitting reply to Nikola’s letter, which is part of the following.
Newburgh, May 22, 1782
Sir!
…. I can assure you, sir, that during the whole war no event has pained me so much as the news that such an ideology is prevailing in the army as you have revealed in your letter. I abhor such views and strongly condemn them.
I do not understand by what conduct of mine you have the courage to make such a proposal to me, if you have any regard for your country, your own or future children, if you have any respect for me in your heart, then you should remove such thoughts from your mind. Greetings!

George Washington was the first President of America. For the second time also he was elected the President. Even for the third time, the public unanimously wanted to make him the President, but he rejected that post by saying that ‘the same person becoming the President again and again may lay the foundation of monarchy or authoritarianism’.
