सत्यनिष्ठा (गुरु रामसिंह )

‘सत्य ही एकमात्र धर्म है। सत्यको पकड़े रहनेसे सभी धर्मके अङ्ग स्वतः सिद्ध हो जाते हैं। सत्य ही मुक्तिका साधन है।’ यह प्रधान उपदेश था कूका सम्प्रदायके संस्थापक गुरु रामसिंहजीका l

एक बार अम्बालामें कसाइयों और हिंदुओंमें झगड़ा हो गया। कसाई एकत्र होकर बहुत-सी गायोंको जुलूस बनाकर वधके लिये ले जा रहे थे। मार्गमें हिंदुओंके लिये यह दृश्य असह्य हो गया। उन्होंने कसाइयोंके हाथसे गायोंको बलपूर्वक छीन लेनेका प्रयत्न किया। बहुत से लोग घायल हुए; किंतु कसाई संख्यामें अधिक थे। हिंदू सफल नहीं हो सके। परंतु उसी रात्रिको कुछ लोग कसाइयोंके घरमें छिपकर घुस गये और उन्होंने उनको मार डाला। फलतः सबेरेसे ही पुलिसनेलोगोंकी धर-पकड़ प्रारम्भ की। ऐसे अवसरोंपर प्रायः जैसा होता है, उस समय भी हुआ। अधिकांश निरपराध लोग पकड़े गये। उनके विरुद्ध झूठी गवाहियाँ पुलिसने तैयार कीं।

गुरु रामसिंहको जब यह समाचार मिला, तब वे बहुत दुःखी हुए। अपने शिष्योंके मध्यमें वे बोले ‘हिंदुओंने बहुत कायरतापूर्ण कार्य किया है। उन्हें कसाइयोंको मारना ही था तो सामने ललकारकर लड़ते। अब तो वे और भी पाप कर रहे हैं कि स्वयं छिप गये हैं और निरपराध लोग दण्ड भोग रहे हैं। ‘

उस समय गुरु रामसिंहकी मंडलीमें एक ऐसा उनका शिष्य भी था जो इस काण्डमें सम्मिलित था। उसने अपना अपराध गुरुके सम्मुख स्वीकार किया।गुरु रामसिंहने पूछा- ‘तुम्हारे साथ जो लोग थे, उनमें क्या और कोई भी मेरा शिष्य था ?’

उसने कहा—’नहीं, उनमें और कोई कूका नहीं था।’ गुरु रामसिंह – ‘तब तुम्हें सरकारी अधिकारियोंके सम्मुख उपस्थित होकर अपना अपराध स्वीकार कर लेना चाहिये। तुम्हारे साथियोंमें कोई मेरा शिष्य होता तो उससे भी मैं यही करनेको कहता। परंतु तुम्हें किसी भी कष्टके भय या प्रलोभनमें पड़कर अपने साथियोंके साथ विश्वासघात नहीं करना चाहिये। उनका नामबतलाना तुम्हारा कर्तव्य नहीं है। यह उनका कर्तव्य है कि वह अपना अपराध स्वीकार करें।’

गुरुकी आज्ञा मानकर वह व्यक्ति सरकारी अधिकारियोंके सामने उपस्थित हुआ। उसने अपना अपराध स्वीकार कर लिया। किंतु उससे किसी प्रकार उसके साथियोंका नाम नहीं पूछा जा सका। उसे अंग्रेजी न्यायने फाँसी दी; किंतु धर्मराजका न्याय उसे पुण्यात्माओंके लोक स्वर्गमें भेजेगा, यह भी क्या संदेह करनेकी बात है ?

‘Truth is the only religion. By holding on to the truth, the parts of all religions are automatically proved. Truth is the only means of salvation. This was the main sermon of Guru Ramsinghji, the founder of the Kuka sect.
Once there was a fight between the butchers and the Hindus in Ambala. The butchers gathered together and made a procession to take many cows for slaughter. This scene became unbearable for the Hindus on the way. They tried to snatch the cows from the hands of the butchers by force. Many people were injured; But the butchers were more in number. Hindus could not succeed. But the same night some people sneaked into the butchers’ house and killed them. As a result, the police started arresting people very early in the morning. As it usually happens on such occasions, it happened at that time also. Most of the innocent people were caught. The police prepared false testimonies against him.
When Guru Ram Singh got this news, he was very sad. He said in the midst of his disciples, ‘The Hindus have done a very cowardly act. If he had to kill the butchers, he would have fought in front of them. Now they are committing even more sins that they themselves are hiding and innocent people are suffering the punishment. ,
At that time there was one such disciple of Guru Ram Singh’s group who was involved in this scandal. He accepted his crime in front of the Guru. Guru Ram Singh asked – ‘Among those who were with you, was anyone my disciple?’
He said – ‘No, there was no other cook among them.’ Guru Ram Singh – ‘Then you should appear before the government officials and accept your crime. If someone among your companions was my disciple, I would have asked him to do the same. But you should not betray your comrades out of fear of any suffering or temptation. It is not your duty to name them. It is his duty to accept his crime.
Obeying the Guru’s order, the person appeared before the government officials. He accepted his crime. But he could not be asked the names of his companions in any way. He was hanged by the English justice; But what is there to doubt that the justice of Dharmaraj will send him to the world of pious souls?
