लिंकनकी विनम्रता
बात की है, जब अब्राहम लिंकन अमेरिकाके राष्ट्रपति नहीं बने थे, किंतु अच्छे नेताके रूपमें प्रसिद्ध हो चुके थे।
एक दिन वे एक सभामें व्याख्यान दे रहे थे। उस सभामें लिंकनके गाँवका एक किसान भी बैठा था। किसी बातपर प्रसन्न होकर वह किसान मंचपर जा पहुँचा और व्याख्यान दे रहे लिंकनके कन्धेपर हाथ रखकर बोला-‘अरे अब्राहम तू तो बड़ा होशियार हो गया है। तेरा व्याख्यान सुनने के लिये श्रोता भारी संख्या में आये हुए हैं। शाबाश!’
किसानके इस व्यवहारसे सभाके आयोजकोंको गुस्सा आ गया, किंतु वे कोई अप्रिय बात करते, उससे पूर्व ही लिंकनने बड़ी आत्मीयतासे उस किसानसे हाथ मिलाया और मंचपर लगी अपनी कुरसीपर बिठाते हुए कहा- ‘चाचाजी! घरपर सब प्रसन्न तो हैं न?’
किसानने कहा-‘हाँ बेटा! मेरे यहाँ तो सभी आनन्दित हैं। तेरी पत्नी और बाल गोपाल भी आनन्द मग्न हैं न?’
‘हाँ चाचाजी! आपकी दयासे सब आनन्द है।’ बूढ़ेसे इस प्रकार कहकर लिंकनने अपना अधूरा व्याख्यान आगे बढ़ाया।
यह प्रसंग उच्च शिक्षा पानेवाले उन देहाती छात्रोंके लिये प्रेरणा देनेवाला है, जो अपने माता-पिताका परिचयदेनेमें हिचकते हैं, साथ ही अपने अहंकारके चलते अपने देहाती परिचितोंसे नजर फेर लेते हैं।
lincoln’s humility
It has been talked about when Abraham Lincoln had not become the President of America, but had become famous as a good leader.
One day he was giving a lecture in a meeting. A farmer from Lincoln’s village was also sitting in that meeting. Pleased with something, the farmer reached the stage and put his hand on the shoulder of Lincoln who was giving the lecture and said – ‘Hey Abraham, you have become very smart. Listeners have come in large numbers to listen to your lectures. Well done!’
This behavior of the farmer angered the organizers of the meeting, but before they could talk anything unpleasant, Lincoln shook hands with the farmer with great intimacy and said while sitting on his chair on the stage – ‘Uncle! Everyone is happy at home, isn’t it?’
The farmer said – ‘ Yes son! Everyone is happy here. Your wife and Bal Gopal are also happy, aren’t they?’
‘Yes uncle! Your kindness is all joy.’ By saying this to the old man, Lincoln proceeded with his unfinished speech.
This episode is inspiring for those rural students who get higher education, who hesitate to introduce their parents, as well as because of their arrogance, they turn their eyes away from their rural acquaintances.
