नया मुखिया
किसी गाँवमें एक बड़े अनुभवी मुखिया थे। वे गाँवकी भलाई चाहते थे और गाँव उनकी हर बात मानता था। मुखियाने कभी किसीके साथ अन्याय किया ही नहीं। दीन-दुखियोंके वे सच्चे सहायक थे। गाँव अपनी एकता और सुख-समृद्धिके कारण सारी तहसील में मशहूर हो गया।
लेकिन अब मुखिया बूढ़े हो गये । उनको चिन्ताहुई कि अपने बाद मैं इस गाँवका मुखियापन किसेसाँपूँगा? गाँवके तीन नौजवान उनके ध्यानमें थे।
एक दिन मुखियाने नौजवानोंको सूर्यास्तके बाद उस जगह मिलनेके लिये बुलाया, जहाँ गाँवका एक नाला बांधा जा रहा था।
तीनों नौजवान नालेके पास पहुँचे। मुखिया कहीं दिखायी नहीं पड़े। तीनों लौटने लगे। इतनेमें उन्होंने देखा कि नालेके दलदलमें एक गाड़ीवानकी गाड़ी फँस गयी है और वह अकेला ही गाड़ीको दलदलसे बाहर निकालने की कोशिश कर रहा है। अँधेरा होनेको था। गाड़ीवानने उन नौजवानोंको देखा और मददपर आनेके लिये पुकारा। नौजवान आपसमें कहने लगे कि कीचड़ जायेंगे, तो हमारे कपड़े गन्दे हो जायेंगे। एक बोला- ‘मुझे बहुत जरूरी काम है; मैं जाता हूँ।’ दूसरेने कहा- ‘घरपर पिताजी मेरी बाट जोह रहे होंगे, मैं तो घर जाऊँगा।’ यों कहकर दोनों चले गये।
तीसरे नौजवानने सोचा, अगर मैंने इस गाड़ीवानकी मदद न की तो और कौन करेगा? उसने अपनी धोती कसी और कीचड़में चलकर गाड़ीके पास पहुँचा। नौजवानने गाड़ीके पहियोंको ढकेलने में मदद की। कुछ ही देरमें गाड़ी दलदलके बाहर निकल आयी। वह गाड़ीवान और कोई नहीं, गाँवके मुखिया ही थे। उन्होंने मुँहपर ढाटा बाँध रखा था और गाँवमें किसीको खयाल भी नहीं था कि वे इस तरह गाड़ी लेकर निकलेंगे।
मुखियाने उस नौजवानकी पीठ ठोंकी और कहा कि तुम मेरी परीक्षामें पास हुए। उस दिन गाँवके लिये एक नया मुखिया मिल गया। जब गाँवोंमें ऐसे नौजवानोंकी संख्या बढ़ेगी, तभी गाँव उठकर खड़े हो सकेंगे।
new leader
There was a very experienced headman in a village. They wanted the welfare of the village and the village obeyed everything they said. The headman never did injustice to anyone. He was a true helper of the poor. The village became famous in the entire tehsil because of its unity and happiness and prosperity.
But now the head has become old. He was worried that to whom would I hand over the headship of this village after me? Three youths of the village were in his attention.
One day the headman called the youths to meet him after sunset at the place where a village drain was being built.
All the three youths reached near the drain. The chief was nowhere to be seen. All three started returning. Meanwhile, he saw that a cartman’s car got stuck in the swamp of the drain and he alone was trying to get the car out of the swamp. It was about to get dark. The car driver saw those youths and called for help to come. The youth started saying among themselves that if the mud goes, then our clothes will get dirty. One said- ‘I have very important work; I am leaving.’ The other said- ‘Father must be waiting for me at home, I will go home.’ Saying this, both went away.
The third youth thought, if I don’t help this cartman, who else will? He tightened his dhoti and walked in the mud to reach the car. The young man helped push the wheels of the cart. Within a short time the car came out of the swamp. That cartman was none other than the head of the village. He had tied a dhata on his face and no one in the village had any idea that he would leave with a car like this.
The chief patted the young man on the back and said that you passed my test. That day a new headman was found for the village. When the number of such youth will increase in the villages, then only the villages will be able to stand up.
