शारीरिक बलसे उपाय श्रेष्ठ है
किसी वनमें बरगदका एक विशाल वृक्ष था। उसकी घनी शाखाओंपर अनेक पक्षी रहा करते थे। उन्हीं में से एक शाखापर एक काक-दम्पती रहते थे और वृक्षके ही खोखले भागमें एक काला साँप भी रहा करता था। जब भी मादा कौआ अंडे देती तो वह उन्हें खा जाया करता था। कौएके अंडोंको खा जाना उस दुष्ट
सर्पका स्वभाव बन गया था। काक-दम्पती उसके इस आचरणसे बहुत दुखित रहते थे, परंतु उन्हें इसका कोई उपाय न सूझता था।
एक दिन वे दोनों अपने मित्र मृगाल के पास गये और उससे अपना दुःख कहते हुए रो पड़े। उनके करुण वृत्तान्तको सुनकर श्रृंगाल भी बहुत दुखी हुआ और बोला-‘हे मित्र ] चिन्ता करनेसे कुछ नहीं होगा। हम उस दुष्ट सर्पको शारीरिक बलसे तो नहीं जीत सकते, क्योंकि उसके विषदन्तका एक ही प्रहार हमें यमलोकका राही बना देगा। परंतु किसी उपाय या युक्तिसे काम बन सकता है। मैं तुम्हें ऐसा उपाय बताऊँगा, जिससे तुम्हारा शत्रु अवश्य हो मारा जायगा।’
इसपर काकने कहा-‘हे मित्र! शीघ्र ही वह उपाय बतलाओ; क्योंकि वह दुष्ट सर्प मेरी वंश परम्पराका ही लोप करनेपर तुला हुआ है।’
श्रृंगालने कहा- ‘तुम किसी राजाकी राजधानी चले जाओ, वहाँ किसी धनी व्यक्ति, राजा अथवा मन्त्रीकी सोनेकी लड़ी या हार लाकर उस दुष्ट सर्पके खोखलेमें डाल दो। उस हारको खोजते हुए राजसेवक आकर काले साँपको मार डालेंगे और हार ले जायेंगे। इस प्रकार तुम्हारा वैरी मारा जायगा।’
यह सुनकर वे दोनों नगरकी ओर उड़े, वहाँ राज सरोवरमें अन्तःपुरकी स्त्रियाँ जलक्रीडा कर रही थीं। उनके आभूषण किनारे रखे हुए थे और राजसेवक उनकी निगरानी कर रहे थे। कौएकी स्त्रीने राजपुरुषको असावधान देखकर एक झपट्टेमें ही रानीका हार उठाया और अपने घोंसलेकी ओर उड़ चली। कौएकी स्त्रीको हार ले जाते देखकर राजपुरुष भी शोर मचाते हुए उसके पीछे-पीछे दौड़े, परंतु आकाशमार्गसे जाती हुई उसे वे भला कैसे पकड़ सकते थे? उसने हार ले जाकर सौंपके खोखलेमें डाल दिया और स्वयं दूर एक पेड़पर बैठ गयी। राजपुरुषोंने उसे हारको खोखले में डालते देख लिया था। जब वे वहाँ पहुँचे तो उन्होंने फन उठाये एक काले साँपको देखा। फिर क्या था? डण्डोंके प्रहारसे राजपुरुषोंने उस काले सर्पको मार डाला और हार लेकर चले गये। काक-दम्पतीने भी भृगालको उसके बुद्धि-चातुर्यके लिये साधुवाद दिया और फिर वे दोनों निश्चिन्त हो आनन्दपूर्वक रहने लगे।
इसीलिये कहा गया है कि ‘बलवान्को उपायसे ही जीतना चाहिये।’ [ पंचतन्त्र, मित्रभेद ]
physical force is the best
There was a huge banyan tree in a forest. Many birds used to live on its dense branches. A cockerel couple used to live on one of those branches and a black snake used to live in the hollow part of the tree itself. Whenever the female crow laid eggs, he used to eat them. eat crow’s eggs
Snake’s nature had become. Kak-couple were very sad due to this behavior of his, but they could not think of any solution for it.
One day both of them went to their friend Mrigal and wept telling him their sorrow. Shringal was also very sad after listening to his sad story and said- ‘O friend] nothing will happen by worrying. We cannot win that evil snake by physical force, because a single attack of its venomous teeth will make us a traveler of Yamlok. But any solution or trick can work. I will tell you such a method, by which your enemy will surely be killed.’
On this Kakne said – ‘O friend! Tell that remedy soon; Because that evil snake is hell-bent on destroying my lineage.’
Shringal said- ‘You go to the capital of a king, there bring the gold thread or necklace of a rich person, king or minister and put it in the hollow of that evil snake. While searching for that necklace, the royal servants would come and kill the black snake and take the necklace away. In this way your enemy will be killed.’
Hearing this, both of them flew towards the city, there the women of the inner city were doing water sports in the Raj Sarovar. Her ornaments were kept aside and the royal servants were watching her. Seeing the carelessness of the prince, the female crow picked up the queen’s necklace in one fell swoop and flew towards her nest. Seeing the crow carrying away the necklace, even the royal men ran after her making noise, but how could they catch her going through the sky? She took the necklace and handed it over to the hollow and herself sat on a tree far away. The princes had seen him putting the necklace in the hollow. When they reached there, they saw a black snake with hood raised. What was then? The royal men killed that black snake with the blows of sticks and went away with the necklace. Kak-couple also thanked Bhrigal for his wisdom and tact and then both of them started living happily without worry.
