विश्वके भक्तोंमें भक्तप्रवर श्रीप्रह्लाद और ध्रुवकी भक्ति, प्रेम, सहिष्णुता अत्यन्त ही अलौकिक थी। दोनों प्रातःस्मरणीय भक्त श्रीभगवान्के विलक्षण प्रेमी थे। प्रह्लादजीके निष्काम भावकी महिमा कही नहीं जा सकती। आरंभसे ही इनमें पूर्ण निष्काम भाव था। जब भगवान् नृसिंहदेवने इनसे वर मांगनेको कहा तब इन्होंने जवाब दिया कि ‘नाथ! मैं क्या लेन देन करनेवाला व्यापारी हूं? मैं तो आपका सेवक हूं, सेवकका काम मांगना नहीं है और स्वामीका कुछ दे दिलाकर सेवकको टाल देना नहीं है।’ परन्तु जब भगवान्ने फिर आग्रह किया तो प्रह्लादने एक वरदान तो यह मांगा कि ‘मेरे पिताने आपसे द्वेष करके आपकी भक्तिमें बाधा पहुंचानेके लिये मुझपर जो अत्याचार किये, हे प्रभो! आपकी कृपासे मेरे पिता उस दुष्कर्मसे उत्पन्न हुए पापसे अभी छूट जायं।’ ‘स्वत्प्रसादात् प्रभो सद्यस्तेन मुच्यते मे पिता।’ कितनी महानता है! दूसरा वरदान यह मांगा कि ‘प्रभो! यदि आप मुझे वरदान देना ही चाहते हैं तो यह दीजिये कि मेरे मनमें कभी कुछ मांगनेकी अभिलाषा ही न हो।’
कितनी अद्भुत निष्कामता और दृढ़ता है। पिता ने कितना कष्ट दिया, परन्तु प्रह्लादजी सब कष्ट सुखपूर्वक सहते रहे, पितासे कभी द्वेष नहीं किया, और अन्तमें महान् निष्कामी होनेपर भी पिताका अपराध क्षमा करनेके लिये भगवान्से प्रार्थना की!
भक्तवर ध्रुवजीमें एक बातकी और विशेषता है, उनमें अपनी सौतेली माता सुरुचीजीके लिये भगवान्से यह कहा कि ‘नाथ! मेरी माताने यदि मेरा तिरस्कार न किया होता तो आज आपके दुर्लभ दर्शनका अलभ्य लाभ मुझे कैसे मिलता? माताने बड़ा ही उपकार किया है।’ इस तरह दोषमें उल्टा गुणका आरोप कर उन्होंने भगवान्से सौतेली माँके लिये मुक्तिका वरदान मांगा। कितने मह्त्त्वकी बात है!
पर इससे यह नहीं समझना चाहिये, कि भक्तवर प्रह्लादजीने पितामें दोषारोपण कर भगवान्के सामने उसे अपराधी बतलाया, इससे उनका भाव नीचा है। ध्रुवजीकी सौतेली माताने ध्रुवसे द्वेष किया था, उनके इष्टदेव भगवान्से नहीं, परन्तु प्रह्लादजी के पिता हिरण्यकशिपुने तो प्रह्लादके इष्टदेव भगवान्से द्वेष किया था। अपने प्रति किया हुआ दोष तो भक्त मानते ही नहीं, फिर माता-पिताद्वारा किया हुआ तिरस्कार तो उत्तम फलका कारण होता है। इसलिये ध्रुवजीका मातामें गुणका आरोप करना उचित ही था। परन्तु प्रह्लादजीके तो इष्टदेवका तिरस्कार था। प्रह्लादजीने अपनेको कष्ट देनेवाला जानकर पिताको दोषी नहीं बतलाया, उन्होंने भगवान्से उनका अपराध करनेके लिये क्षमा मांगकर पिताका उद्धार चाहा।
बहुतसी बातोंमें एकसे होनेपर भी प्रह्लादजीमें निष्काम भावकी विशेषता थी और ध्रुवजीमें सौतेली माताके प्रति गुणारोप कर उसके लिये मुक्ति मांगनेकी ! वास्तवमें दोनों ही विलक्षण भक्त थे। भगवान्का दर्शन करनेके लिये दोनोंकी ही प्रतिज्ञा अटल थी, दोनोंने उसको बड़ी ही दृढ़ता और तत्परतासे पूरा किया। प्रह्लादजीने घरमें पिताके द्वारा दिये हुए कष्ट प्रसन्न मनसे सहे, तो ध्रुवजीने वनमें अनेक कष्टोंको सानन्द सहन किया। नियमोंसे कोई किसीप्रकार भी नहीं हटे, अपने सिद्धान्तपर दृढ़तासे डटे रहे, कोई भी भय या प्रलोभन उन्हें तनिक सा भी नहीं झुका सका।
वास्तवमें दोनों ही परम आदर्श और वन्दनीय हैं, हमें दोनों ही के जीवनसे शिक्षा ग्रहण करनी चाहिये।
Among the devotees of the world, the devotion, love and tolerance of Bhaktapravar Shri Prahlad and Dhruv were very supernatural. Both early morning devotees were great lovers of the Lord. The glory of Prahladji’s selfless spirit cannot be said anywhere. From the very beginning, there was complete selflessness in him. When Lord Nrusinghdev asked him to ask for a boon, he replied that ‘Nath! What Transaction Trader Am I? I am your servant, the servant’s work is not to ask and the master is not to postpone the servant by giving something.’ But when God again insisted, Prahlad asked for a boon that ‘my father, hating you and obstructing your devotion, Tortured, oh Lord! May my father be freed from the sin arising out of that misdeed by your grace. The second boon was asked that ‘Lord! If you want to give me a boon, then give it that I should never have the desire to ask for anything.
What wonderful selflessness and perseverance. The father gave so much trouble, but Prahlad ji continued to bear all the suffering happily, never hated the father, and in the end prayed to God to forgive the father’s crime even after being very disinterested!
Devotee Dhruvji has one more specialty, he said to God for his step mother Suruchiji that ‘ Nath! If my mother had not disrespected me, how would I have got the rare benefit of your rare darshan today? Mother has done a great favor.’ In this way, accusing God of opposite qualities in the fault, he asked God for the boon of salvation for the step mother. What an important matter!
But this should not be understood that the devotee Prahladji blamed his father and described him as a criminal before God, therefore his feelings are low. Dhruvaji’s stepmother hated Dhruva, not his beloved Lord, but Prahladji’s father Hiranyakasipu hated Prahlad’s beloved Lord. The devotee does not accept the fault done to himself, but the contempt done by his parents is the cause of the best fruit. Therefore, it was appropriate to accuse Dhruvaji of virtue in his mother. But Prahladji had contempt for his dear god. Prahladji did not blame his father for causing him pain, he asked God for forgiveness for his crime and asked for his father’s salvation.
Despite being similar in many respects, Prahladji had the specialty of selflessness and Dhruvji sought salvation for his step mother by attributing virtues to her! In fact, both were great devotees. The promise of both of them to see God was firm, both of them fulfilled it with great determination and readiness. Prahlad ji tolerated the hardships given by his father in the house with a happy mind, then Dhruv ji bore many hardships in the forest with joy. No one deviated from the rules in any way, stuck firmly to his principles, no fear or temptation could make him bend even a little bit.
In fact, both are the ultimate ideal and praiseworthy, we should learn from the lives of both.
