पदप्राप्तिसे हानि
चीनी दार्शनिक चुआँग-जू नदीके किनारे बैठा मछलियाँ पकड़ रहा था, तभी एक राजदूतने आकर उससे कहा, ‘सम्राट्ने आपको अपना प्रधानमन्त्री नियुक्त किया है।’
‘सुना है कि सम्राट्के संग्रहालयमें किसी दिव्य कछुएकी ढाल सुरक्षित है। बताओ, अगर वह कछुआ जीवित होता, तो क्या पसन्द करता – -सम्राट्के संग्रहालयकी शोभा बढ़ाना या जहाँ वह पैदा हुआ था, वहाँकी दलदलमें लोटना ?’ चुआँग-जूने उससे प्रश्न किया।
दूतने उत्तर दिया, ‘वह दलदलमें लोटना ज्यादा पसन्द करता ।’
चुआँग-जूने कहा, ‘और मैं भी यही पसन्द करता हूँ। पद पाकर आदमी मनःशान्ति खो बैठता है और कभी-कभी अपना जीवन भी । सम्राट्से जाकर कह देना, मुझे दलदलमें लोटना ज्यादा पसन्द है ।’
loss of office
The Chinese philosopher Chuang-tzu was sitting on the river bank catching fish, when an ambassador came and said to him, ‘The emperor has appointed you as his prime minister.’
‘Heard that the shield of some divine tortoise is safe in the emperor’s museum. Tell me, if that tortoise were alive, what would it have preferred – to grace the emperor’s museum or to return to the swamp where it was born?’ Chuang-Juen questioned him.
The messenger replied, ‘He would have preferred to roll in the swamp.’
Chuang-june said, ‘And I like it too. After getting a position, a person loses his peace of mind and sometimes his life too. Go and tell the Emperor that I prefer to wallow in the marshes.’
