आज माता शबरी जन्म दिवस पर्व है। रामायण की सबसे प्रसिद्ध कथाओं में भगवान राम द्वारा शबरी के जूठे बेर खाने वाले प्रसङ्ग के बारे में हम सभी जानते हैं। पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार फाल्गुन मास में आज के ही दिन भगवान श्रीराम ने अपनी अनन्य भक्त शबरी की आस्था और भक्ति को पूर्ण करने के लिए उनके जूठे बेर खाए थे। इसलिए इसी दिन को माता शबरी जन्मोत्सव के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इस दिन केरल के प्रसिद्ध सबरीमला मंदिर में पूजा अर्चना के साथ ही बड़ा मेला भी लगता है।
माँ शबरी का असली नाम श्रमणा था, शबरी का संबंध भील समुदाय से था, भील समुदाय के राजकुमार से शबरी का विवाह तय हुआ था, जहां पर पशुबलि की परंपरा थी। शबरी किसी भी प्रकार की हिंसा को पसंद नहीं करती थीं, इस कारण शबरी ने विवाह से ठीक एक दिन पूर्व घर छोड़ दिया और दंडकारण्य वन में रहने लगीं। इस वन में मातंग ऋषि रहते थे, वे ऋषि की सेवा करने लगीं। वे शबरी की सेवा भावना से अत्यंत प्रसन्न हुए। एक दिन जब ऋषि मातंग को लगा कि उनका अंत समय निकट है तो उन्होंने शबरी से कहा कि वे इसी आश्रम में प्रभु श्री राम की प्रतीक्षा करें, वे एक दिन अवश्य ही उनसे मिलने आएंगे। इसके बाद शबरी का समय भगवान राम की प्रतीक्षा में बीतने लगा। प्रतिदिन भगवान श्रीराम के लिए मीठे बेर तोड़कर लाती थीं, एक भी बेर खट्टा न हो इसके लिए वह एक-एक बेर चखकर तोड़ती थी। ऐसा करते हुए कई वर्ष बीत गए। एक दिन माता शबरी को पता चला कि दो सुंदर युवक उन्हें खोज रहे हैं, वे समझ गईं कि उनके प्रभु श्रीराम आ गए हैं, शबरी प्रभु श्रीराम के पास पहुंची और उन्हें आश्रम लेकर आईं तथा भगवान श्रीराम को अपने तोड़े हुए मीठे बेर दिए। भगवान श्रीराम ने बड़े प्रेम से वे बेर खाए और अपनी भक्त शबरी की भक्ति को पूर्ण किया।
हिंदू धर्म में इस पर्व को भगवान श्रीराम के प्रति आस्था के पर्व के तौर पर भी देखा जाता है। भगवान राम द्वारा शबरी के जूठे बेर खाने की कथा रामायण, भागवत , रामचरित मानस, सूरसागर आदि ग्रंथों में पढ़ने को मिलती है। आज के दिन कई स्थानों पर रामायण का पाठ भी किया जाता है। इस दिन भगवान श्रीराम के साथ माता शबरी की पूजा-अर्चना भी की जाती है। मान्यता है कि ऐसा करने से भक्त की सभी मनोकामनाएं पूरी होती है। पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, फाल्गुन माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की सप्तमी तिथि को ही भगवान श्रीराम के आशीर्वाद से माता शबरी को मोक्ष की प्राप्ति हुई थी।

Today is Mata Shabari birthday festival. In the most famous stories of Ramayana, we all know about the Prasanga, who eats Shabri’s plum by Lord Rama. According to mythological beliefs, on this day in the month of Phalgun, Lord Shri Ram had eaten his shoes plum to fulfill the faith and devotion of his exclusive devotee Shabari. Therefore, this day is celebrated as Mata Shabari Janmotsav. On this day, along with worshiping in the famous Sabarimala temple in Kerala, a big fair is also organized.
Maa Shabari’s real name was Shramana, Shabri was related to the Bhil community, Shabri was married to the prince of the Bhil community, where there was a tradition of animal sacrifice. Shabri did not like any kind of violence, due to which Shabari left home just a day before marriage and started living in Dandakaranya forest. Mathang sages lived in this forest, they started serving the sage. He was very happy with the service spirit of Shabri. One day when the sage Matang felt that his end time is near, he told Shabari that he should wait for Lord Shri Ram in this ashram, he will definitely come to meet him one day. After this, the time of Shabari started waiting for Lord Rama. Every day she used to break sweet plum for Lord Shri Ram, she used to break one plum to ensure that not a single plum was sour. Many years passed while doing so. One day Mata Shabari came to know that two beautiful young men were searching for her, she understood that her lord Sri Ram had come, Shabri Prabhu reached Shri Ram and brought her to the ashram and gave him his broken sweet plum to Lord Shri Ram. Lord Shri Ram ate plum with great love and completed his devotion to his devotee Shabari.
In Hinduism, this festival is also seen as a festival of faith in Lord Shri Ram. The story of Lord Rama eating Shabari’s Juthe plum is found in texts like Ramayana, Bhagwat, Ramcharit Manas, Sursagar etc. Ramayana is also recited in many places on this day. On this day, Goddess Shabari is also worshiped along with Lord Shri Ram. It is believed that by doing this, all the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled. According to mythology, Mother Shabari attained salvation with the blessings of Lord Shri Ram on the seventh day of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month.
