“ज्ञानी का अवरोध”

          जहाँ जीवन में उतरी हुई कोई चीज होती है, वहाँ वह चीज तत्काल समझ में आ जाती है। इसके विपरीत जब हम केवल कहते हैं और वह बात जीवन में उतरी नहीं है तो मैं सत्य कहता हूँ कि इससे कोई लाभ नहीं होता है।
          एक बार व्यासजी महाराज ने शुकदेवजी को उपदेश दिया, किंतु उनकी समझ में वह बात नहीं आयी तो पिता ने कहा कि तुम महाराज जनक के पास जाओ, वे उपदेश देंगे। शुकदेवजी जनक के द्वारपर पहुँचे। जनकजी जान गये थे कि शुकदेव आ रहे हैं। उन्होंने बाहर पहरेदारों को पहले ही खबर करवा दी कि उन्हें अंदर मत आने देना। शुकदेवमुनि द्वारपर आ गये और अंदर जाने लगे तो पहरेदारों ने कहा-महाराज ! रुकिये, अंदर जाने की आज्ञा नहीं है। शुकदेवजी खड़े हो गये। न स्वागत किया, न सत्कार किया और न आसन दिया गया। गुप्तचर देखते रहे कि इनके मुख की आकृति कैसी बनती है। आकृति-विज्ञान वालों ने देखा कि मुख जैसा-का-तैसा है। कोई भी विकार का भाव नहीं है। महल में निर्विकारता की खबर दी गयी। इस पर जनकजी ने कहा-अच्छा, अब उनको ऐसे विलास-कानून में भेज दो, जहाँ विलास की सारी सामग्री और सारे-के-सारे विलास के साधन मौजूद हों। ऐसा ही किया गया। जहाँ पर विकार पैदा करने वाली सारी सामग्रियाँ उपस्थित थीं, जहाँ पर इन्द्रियों के सारे विषय विद्यमान थे, ऐसे स्थान पर उन्हें भेज दिया गया। वस्त्रालंकारों से सुसज्जित पचास तरुणी स्त्रियों को उनकी सेवा में लगा दिया गया। शुकदेवजी तो गर्भज्ञानी थे। जो बाहर थे, वही अंदर रहे। कोई परिवर्तन नहीं हुआ। जैसे-के-तैसे रहे। महल में महाराज के पास खबर पहुँची कि वे तो जैसे बाहर हैं वैसे ही अंदर भी हैं। जनकजी ने कहा-अब उन्हें ससम्मान यहाँ ले आइये। जब वे पहुँचे तो जनक महाराज स्वयं आदरपूर्वक उन्हें ले गये। महल में ले जाकर योग्य आसन दिया, स्थान दिया, पूजा की, अर्घ्य दिया और पूछा-महाराज ! कैसे पधारे ? शुकदेवजी ने कहा-पिताजी ने आज्ञा दी है। आपके पास बोध प्राप्त करने आया हूँ। शुकदेवकी तो परीक्षा हो चुकी थी-

           मानापमानयोस्तुल्यस्तुल्यो मित्रारिपक्षयोः।
                                             

          मान-अपमान में तुल्य रहना बड़ी कठिन बात है। जरा-सी बात में हम लोगों का
मान-भंग हो जाता हैं। आज प्रेम से भी अनजान में भी कहीं कोई अगर जरा-सी अपने मन की कल्पना में रूक्षता हो जाय तो हमें लगता है कि हमारा अपमान कर दिया। गुरुजी ने अपमान कर दिया, हमारे भाई ने अपमान कर दिया, पिता ने-पति ने अपमान कर दिया। न मालूम क्या-क्या अपमान की कल्पना करके मन में मनुष्य दु:खी होता है। कितना अपमान ! जनकजी के यहाँ शुकदेव मुनि से बैठने के लिये भी नहीं कहा गया। जल के लिये भी नहीं पूछा गया। कुछ भी नहीं कहा गया। विलास-भवन में सारी सामग्रियाँ उनके विलास के लिये मौजूद! परंतु कुछ भी विकार नहीं आया। परीक्षा हो गयी कि ये केवल मौखिक वेदान्ती नहीं हैं। ये केवल मौखिक ज्ञानी नहीं हैं। ज्ञान इनके जीवन में उतर आया है। जो ज्ञान का परिणाम होता है वह इनके जीवन में मूर्तिमान् है। तब जनक ने कहा-महाराज ! आप जो यह मानते हैं कि मुझे बोध नहीं है, ज्ञान नहीं है, इसको छोड़ दीजिये। आप ज्ञानवान् हैं, परंतु आपने जो मान रखा है कि अभी हमें बोध प्राप्त करना अवशेष है, बोध नहीं है, बस यही अवरोध है। इसको छोड़ दीजिये, आप बोधवान् हैं। वह तो वैसे भी छूटा हुआ था ही। जनकजी की यह बात शुकदेवजी को तत्काल समझ में आ गयी।

Where there is something that has come down in life, that thing is immediately understood. On the contrary, when we just say and that thing has not worked in life, then I tell the truth that it does not do any good. Once Vyasji Maharaj preached to Shukdevji, but he did not understand that point, then the father said that you go to Maharaj Janak, he will give the sermon. Shukdevji reached Janaka’s gate. Janakji knew that Shukdev was coming. He informed the guards outside in advance that they should not be allowed to enter. When Shukdev Muni came to the door and started going inside, the guards said – Maharaj! Wait, you are not allowed inside. Shukadevji stood up. Neither welcomed, nor felicitated nor given a seat. The detectives kept seeing how the shape of their face was formed. The morphologists saw that the face is as it is. There is no sense of disorder. The news of immorality was given in the palace. On this Janakji said – well, now send them to such a luxury-law, where all the material of luxury and all the means of luxury are present. That’s what was done. They were sent to such a place where all the substances causing disorder were present, where all the objects of the senses were present. Fifty young women dressed in robes were engaged in his service. Shukdevji was a pregnant woman. Those who were outside stayed inside. No change happened. Stay like that. The news reached the Maharaj in the palace that as he is outside, he is also inside. Janakji said – Now bring them here respectfully. When they arrived, Janak Maharaj himself respectfully took them away. He was taken to the palace and given a suitable seat, given a place, worshiped, offered Arghya and asked – Maharaj! How did you come? Shukdevji said – Father has given orders. I have come to get realization with you. Shukadev had already been tested.

He is equal in honor and dishonour, equal in friends and enemies.

It is a very difficult thing to remain equal in honor and humiliation. In a little bit of us Honor breaks down. Today, even in the ignorant of love, if someone becomes a little rude in the imagination of his mind, then we feel that we have been insulted. Guruji insulted, our brother insulted, father-husband insulted. I don’t know what kind of humiliation a person feels sad in his mind. What an insult! Shukdev Muni was not even asked to sit at Janakji’s place. Not even asked for water. Nothing was said. All the materials in the luxury building are available for their luxury! But nothing wrong happened. Tested that these are not just oral Vedantins. They are not mere verbal learners. Knowledge has entered their lives. The result of knowledge is embodied in their lives. Then Janak said – Maharaj! Those of you who believe that I do not have understanding, do not have knowledge, leave it. You are knowledgeable, but what you have assumed that now we have to get realization, there is no realization, this is the only obstacle. Leave it, you are intelligent. He was left out anyway. This point of Janakji was immediately understood by Shukdevji.
