सुनतहिं भयहुँ पर्वताकारा…
(रामचरितमानस)
हम सब लोग सागर के किनारे खड़े थे… सामने सागर था, विशाल सागर ।
गवाक्ष, ऋषभ, गन्धमादन, द्विविद, जामवन्त, अंगद, नल-नील और मैं
हाँ… सम्पाती हमें मिला था गिद्ध सम्पाती… जटायू का भाई
भरत भैया ! उसके पंख जले हुए थे… उसने अपनी घटना हमें सुनाई थी… जटायू और ये सम्पाती दोनों भाई थे… एक दिन दोनों ने प्रतिस्पर्धा की… कि सूर्य के पास कौन जायेगा ? जो सूर्य को छूकर आये वह सर्वश्रेष्ठ होगा ।
सम्पाती ने हमें बताया… जटायू ने बुद्धिमानी की… और रास्ते से ही लौट आया… पर मैं अभिमान से भरा हुआ था… उड़ता गया आकाश में… पर सूर्य का वह भीषण ताप !
मेरे पंख झुलस गए और मैं यहाँ आकर गिरा सागर के किनारे !
सम्पाती ने इतना ही कहा और अपने भाई जटायू को याद करके अश्रु गिराने लगा था ।
जटायू ! आपका भाई ?
भैया भरत जी ! मैंने देखा सम्पाती को… और जटायू का ये भाई है ये सुनकर इसके प्रति मेरी श्रद्धा और बढ़ गयी थी ।
क्या आप जानते हैं मेरे भाई जटायू को ? सम्पाती ने पूछा ।
आहा ! जटायू ! अब तो इस नाम का भी कोई उच्चारण कर ले तो भी वह धन्य हो जाएगा ।
क्यों कि सम्पाती ! अब जटायू , जटायू कहाँ है ?
अब तो भगवतभक्तों में उनका नाम ससम्मान लिया जाता है…
मैंने कहा सम्पाती से…भरत भैया ।
क्यों ? ऐसा क्या हुआ ? सम्पाती का उत्तर मेरे पास ही था ।
सम्पाती ! प्रभु श्री राम के लिए… उनकी आद्यशक्ति को राक्षसी हाथों से बचाने के लिए… अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे दी थी जटायू ने ।
ओह ! कराह उठा…
सम्पाती के नेत्रों से अश्रु प्रवाह चल पड़े थे ।
अब जीने की इच्छा नही है… एक ही इच्छा के चलते मैं अभी तक जीवित था… कि कभी तो भाई जटायू से मिलना होगा ही… पर अपना भाई भी चला गया हमें छोड़कर…
पर आप लोग वानर भालू यहाँ सागर के किनारे कैसे ?
उन्हीं प्रभु श्रीराम की आद्यशक्ति का पता लगाने निकले हैं कि उनको उस राक्षस ने कहाँ रखा है… यही पता लगाना है ।
मैंने कहा सम्पाती से ।
वो तो रावण है रावण ही चुरा कर ले गया है एक उत्तरभारत की नारी को… हाँ… मैंने देखा था…
सम्पाती थोड़ा तन कर बैठ गया… और हनुमान जी से बोला…
देखो ! मुझे तो स्पष्ट दिखाई दे रहा है सागर के उस पार लंका है वही का राजा है रावण । (गिद्ध की दृष्टि दूर तक देखती है)
वही चुराकर ले गया है भगवान श्री राम की आद्यशक्ति को ।
जाओ ! आप लोग जाओ… मेरे पंख झुलसे हुए हैं… नहीं तो मैं भी आप लोगों की सहायता कर ही देता ।
इतना कहते हुए सम्पाती ने अपने शरीर को त्याग दिया ।
आज भरत जी के साथ-साथ शत्रुघ्न कुमार भी आ गये थे… और वे भी बड़े प्रेम से हनुमान जी के द्वारा कही जा रही आत्मकथा को सुन रहे थे ।
हनुमान ने भरत जी को कहा – भरत भैया ! सम्पाती ने हमें पता तो बता दिया था कि माँ मैथिली कहाँ मिलेंगी… पर हमारे सामने तो विशाल सागर लहरा रहा था और इसके पार थी लंका ।
कोई कैसे पार करेगा इसे ।
मैं तो छोटा-सा कपि हूँ… बड़े-बड़े लोग हैं ना… जामवन्त द्विविद नल नील अंगद… मैं इनके सामने भला क्या हूँ ।
ऐसा विचार करके मैं एक विशाल शिला पर जाकर बैठ गया था… और समुद्र की तरंगों को गिन रहा था ।
मेरे कानों में आवाज आ रही थी… जामवन्त ने ही सबको सावधान किया और कहा… लंका में हैं माता मैथिली ।
अब बताओ कौन जाएगा सागर पार लंका ?
दधिमुख नामक वानर ने कहा – पता तो चल ही गया ना माँ मैथिली का चलो… अब जाकर महाराज सुग्रीव को बताये देते हैं ।
पर माँ कैसी हैं ? कहाँ हैं ? किस स्थिति में हैं ? इन सबका पता किये बिना वापस लौट जाना उचित नही हो सकता ।
मैं कूद सकता हूँ 10 योजन… “ऋषभ” नामक वानर ने कहा ।
पर सागर तो 100 योजन का है… “जामवन्त” ने कहा ।
मैं 30 योजन उछल सकता हूँ… “गवाक्ष” नामक वानर ने कहा ।
60 योजन की बात हो तो मैं कूद सकता हूँ… “गन्धमादक” नामक वानर ने ये कहा था ।
द्विविद नामक वानर का कहना था… मैं 80 योजन या 90 योजन तक तो पार गया हूँ… पर 100 योजन की कह नही सकता ।
युवराज अंगद ने कहा… मेरे साथ एक समस्या है…
क्या समस्या है युवराज ? जामवन्त ने पूछा ।
रावण का एक पुत्र है अक्षय कुमार…
और अक्षय कुमार और “मैं अंगद” दोनों एक ही साथ पढ़े हैं…
पर… अंगद इतना कहकर चुप हो गए ।
हनुमान जी ने भरत जी से कहा भरत भैया ! रावण का पुत्र अक्षय कुमार और अंगद दोनों मित्र थे…।
अंगद बचपन से ही उद्दंडी थे , रावण का बेटा अक्षयकुमार भी उसी गुरुकुल में पढ़ता था ।
अंगद ने बताया… मैं रावण के बेटे को खूब मारता था…
अक्षयकुमार नाम था उसका ।
नित्य शिकायत… नित आकर ये शिकायत करता है अंगद की… ऋषि विचार करने लगे थे ।
एक दिन मैंने खूब मारा रावण के बेटे को… बस फिर क्या था…
ऋषि ने मुझे श्राप दे दिया… जाओ ! मैं तुम्हें श्राप देता हूँ जिस दिन अक्षय कुमार तुम्हें एक थप्पड़ भी जड़ देगा ना… उसी दिन तुम मर जाओगे ।
हे जामवन्त जी ! मैं 100 योजन जा तो सकता हूँ… लांघ सकता हूँ इस सागर को… पर अक्षय कुमार का क्या करूँ ? अंगद ने कहा ।
अच्छा नहीं… कहीं नही जायेंगे आप अंगद जी…
वैसे भी आप हमारे युवराज हैं… और बिना सेना के युवराज को शत्रुओं की मंडली में अकेले कैसे भेज दें ।
अंगद कुछ नही बोले ।
अब आप सोच रहे होंगे कि मैं क्यों नही जाता… सागर पार जामवन्त ने अंगद से कहा ।
मैं इसलिये नही जाता कि अब ये शरीर बूढ़ा हो गया है… मैं त्रेता युग का कहाँ हूँ मैं तो सत्ययुग का हूँ ।
एक युग बीत गया… एक समय पूरी पृथ्वी की मैं सात नित्य परिक्रमा लगाता था… पर अब मेरा शरीर वृद्ध हो गया है…
जामवन्त इधर-उधर देखने लगे
पवनपुत्र कहाँ हैं ?
दूर बैठे हैं एक शिला के ऊपर… जामवन्त ने देखा ।
चलो ! जो जा सकता है सागर पार… वो तो मौन है ?
क्या ? अंगद ने जामवन्त से पूछा हनुमान जायेंगे सागर पार ?
हाँ यही जा सकते हैं चलो ! सब वानरों को लेकर पवनपुत्र के पास में जामवन्त आ गये थे।
आप लंका जा सकते हैं !
गम्भीर होकर जामवन्त ने कहा ।
हनुमान जी थोड़े सकपका गए थे…
मैं… मैं जा सकता हूँ 100 योजन सागर पार ?
हाँ… आप सौर मण्डल को ऐसे पार कर जाते थे बचपन में…
और तो और हे हनुमान जी ! आप को बचपन में भूख लगी तो आप सूर्य को ही फल समझ कर खा लिए थे…
ये सुनते ही वानर समाज चिल्ला उठा… पवन पुत्र की जय हो !
संकट मोचन की जय हो !
महावीर की जय हो…
आप भूल गए हनुमान ! याद कीजिये आपको एक ऋषि ने श्राप दे दिया था… क्यों कि आप उनकी कुटिया में जाकर विघ्न डाल रहे थे ।
श्राप दिया… जाओ ! अपनी शक्ति भूल जाओगे तुम ।
याद है ? कुछ याद आया पवनसुत !
आप रूद्रावतार हैं अब रूद्र के लिए क्या कार्य दुष्कर है ।
पवन के पुत्र हैं आप… वानर राज केसरी के लाड़ले हैं आप… आपकी माँ अंजनी अत्यंत तपस्विनी हैं…
अरे ! इन सबसे बड़ी बात है… आपके साथ सर्वेश्वर श्री राम हैं… उनका वरद हस्त आपके सिर पर है… आप जो चाहे कर सकते हैं…।
आपके लिए कोई भी कार्य कठिन नही है… याद कीजिये ।
जामवन्त जोर-जोर से बोल रहे थे…
तभी हनुमान जी ने भरत जी को कहा… मुझे आवेश आ गया था… अपनी शक्ति को मैं भूल चुका था… मेरा शरीर फैलने लगा… स्वर्ण कान्ति के समान देह हो गया था मेरा… मैं इतना फैलने लगा कि अब तो सत्ययुग के जामवन्त भी मेरे कमर तक आ रहे थे… बड़े-बड़े पहाड़ मेरे सामने बौने लग रहे थे ।
आप याद कीजिये… आप अपनी शक्ति याद कीजिये।
जामवन्त के साथ सभी वानर समाज यही पुकार रहा था ।
मैं आवेश में आ गया था ।
मेरा शरीर इतना विशाल था… कि मेरे रोम से वृक्ष गिर रहे थे ।
मेरे सांस लेने से… पहाड़ टूट कर गिर रहे थे… मेरे सिर के बालों से आकाश के बादल छिन्न-भिन्न हो रहे थे ।
जामवन्त जी ! कहिये… आप कहें तो मैं रावण को ही मार कर आ जाता हूँ… लंका को फूँक कर आ जाऊंगा…
माता मैथिली को अपने कन्धे पर बिठाकर… प्रभु श्रीराम के पास ले आऊंगा…। मैंने जामवन्त से जब ये सब कहा तो… जामवन्त बोले- नहीं पहले अपने आवेश को शान्त करो पवनपुत्र !
और अब ध्यान से सुनो… तुम्हें कुछ नही करना है… बस तुम्हे जाकर लंका में , माता मैथिली से मिल कर… उनको प्रभु का सन्देश देकर वापस आ जाना है… बाकी जो करेंगे वो सब प्रभु श्रीराम ही करेंगे ।
बस इतना करो तुम… जाओ… हम सबके प्राणों की रक्षा करने वाले हो तुम… पता लगाकर आओ ।
जामवन्त ने कहा ।
इतना कहते ही भरत भैया ! मैंने प्रसन्नता से सबको प्रणाम किया । मैंने सबको कहा- आप लोग यहाँ भूखे मत रहना… जो भी मिले खा लेना… और जब तक मैं वापस न आऊँ लौटने के बारे में सोचना भी मत ।
पर आप ने सब को रोका क्यों ? पवन पुत्र ! ये सब वानर आपकी क्या सहायता कर सकते थे सागर के इस पार से… लंका में ?
जाने देते इन्हें महाराज सुग्रीव के पास… शत्रुघ्न कुमार ने कहा ।
नहीं शत्रुघ्न जी ! मैंने इसलिए रोका इन वानरों को कि मेरे साथ तो सर्वेश्वर श्री राम हैं हीं… इसलिये मुझे तो सफलता मिलनी ही है ।
पर ये वानर अगर लौट कर चले गए वापस किष्किन्धा तो बाद में माँ मैथिली के खोज का सारा श्रेय मुझे ही मिलेगा और मैं ये श्रेय अकेले लेना नही चाहता था सबको ये श्रेय मिले… मेरी ये इच्छा थी इसलिये मैंने इन वानरों को रोका… ये कहते हुए भी हनुमान जी को बड़ा संकोच हो रहा था ।
ये जब सुना शत्रुघ्न कुमार ने तो आनन्दित हो गए..
कितना ख्याल रखते हैं आप अपने लोगों का ।
और आश्चर्य ! आपने इतना बड़ा काम किया फिर भी किंचित अभिमान नही ओह !
सच में आपका नाम हनु मान… कितना सार्थक है…
जिसने अपने अभिमान का हनन कर दिया… जिसने अपने आपको अस्तित्व की सेवा में झोंक दिया… मिटा दिया… उसका ही नाम है हनुमान ये कहते हुए शत्रुघ्न कुमार ने हनुमान जी को हाथ जोड़कर प्रणाम किया था… अपलक नेत्रों से भरत भैया हनुमान जी को आज देखते रहे थे ।

All of us were standing on the bank of the ocean… In front was the ocean, the vast ocean.
Gavaksha, Rishabha, Gandhamadana, Dvivid, Jamvant, Angada, Nala-Nil and I
Yes… property we got vulture property… Jatayu’s brother
Brother Bharat! His wings were burnt… He narrated his incident to us… Jatayu and Ye Sampati both were brothers… One day both of them competed… that who would go to Surya? The one who comes after touching the sun will be the best.
Sampati told us… Jatayu was wise… and returned from the way… but I was full of pride… kept flying in the sky… but that fierce heat of the sun!
My wings got scorched and I came here and fell on the sea shore!
Sampati said this much and started shedding tears remembering his brother Jatayu.
Jatayu! your brother ?
Brother Bharat! I saw Sampati… and hearing that he is Jatayu’s brother, my faith in him increased further.
Do you know my brother Jatayu? Sampati asked.
Ouch! Jatayu! Now even if someone pronounces this name, he will be blessed.
Why property! Now Jatayu, where is Jatayu?
Now his name is respected among the devotees of God.

An era has passed… Once upon a time I used to circumambulate the whole earth seven times… But now my body has become old…

Where is Pawanputra?
They are sitting far away on top of a rock… Jamwant saw.
Let us go ! The one who can go across the ocean… is he silent?
What ? Angad asked Jamwant, will Hanuman go across the ocean?
Yes, here you can go! Jamwant had come to Pawanputra with all the monkeys.
You can go to Lanka!
Jamwant said getting serious.
Hanuman ji was a little hesitant.
I… Can I go 100 yojanas across the ocean?

You are the son of Pawan… You are the darling of the monkey king Kesari… Your mother Anjani is extremely ascetic…

No work is difficult for you… remember.

That’s why Hanuman ji said to Bharat ji… I was in a rage… I had forgotten my power… My body started spreading… My body had become like a golden glow… I started spreading so much that now even the Jamwants of Satyayug are near me. They were coming up to the waist… Big mountains were looking dwarf in front of me.
You remember… You remember your power.
Along with Jamwant, the whole monkey society was calling out for this.
I got excited.
My body was so huge… that trees were falling from my hair.
By my breathing… the mountains were crumbling down… the clouds in the sky were disintegrating from the hairs of my head.
Jamwant ji! Say… If you say, I will come after killing Ravana… I will come back after blowing up Lanka…
I will bring Mother Maithili on my shoulder… to Lord Shriram…. When I told all this to Jamwant, Jamwant said – No, first calm your anger, son of wind!
And now listen carefully… you don’t have to do anything… you just have to go to Lanka, meet Mother Maithili… give her the message of God and come back… rest of the work will be done by Lord Shri Ram.
You just do this… go… you are going to save our lives… come after finding out.
Jamwant said.
Brother Bharat just saying this! I greeted everyone happily. I told everyone – you guys don’t starve here… eat whatever you get… and don’t even think of returning until I come back.
But why did you stop everyone? Son of Pawan! How could all these monkeys help you from this side of the ocean… in Lanka?
Let them go to Maharaj Sugriva… Shatrughan Kumar said.
No Shatrughan ji! I stopped these monkeys because Sarveshwar Shri Ram is with me… That’s why I have to get success.
But if these monkeys go back to Kishkindha, then later I will get all the credit for the discovery of Mother Maithili and I did not want to take this credit alone, everyone should get this credit… I wanted this, so I stopped these monkeys… They used to say Despite this, Hanuman ji was feeling very hesitant.
Shatrughan Kumar was overjoyed when he heard this.
