माँ दुर्गाजी की सातवीं शक्ति कालरात्रि के नाम से जानी जाती है | इनके शरीर का रंग घने अन्धकार की तरह एकदम काला है | सिर के बाल बिखरे हुए हैं | गले में विद्युत् की तरह चमकने वाली माला है | इनके तीन नेत्र हैं | ये तीनों नेत्र ब्रह्माण्ड के सदृश गोल हैं | इनमे विद्युत् के समान चमकीली किरणें नि:सृत होती है | इनकी नासिका के श्वास-प्रश्वास से अग्नि की भयंकर ज्वालाएँ निकलती रहती हैं | इनका वाहन गर्दभ – गदहा है | ऊपर उठे हुए दाहिने हाथ की वरमुद्रा से सभी को वर प्रदान करती हैं | दाहिनी तरफ का नीचे वाला हाथ अभयमुद्रा में है | बायीं तरफ के ऊपर वाले हाथ में लोहे का काँटा तथा नीचे वाले हाथ में खड्ग (कटार) है |
माँ कालरात्रि का स्वरूप देखने में अत्यन्त भयानक है, लेकिन ये सदैव शुभ फल देने वाली हैं | इसी कारण इनका एक नाम ‘शुभंकरी’ भी है | अत: इनसे भक्तों को किसी प्रकार भी भयभीत अथवा आतंकित होने की आवश्यकता नहीं है |
दुर्गा पूजा के सातवें दिन माँ कालरात्रि की उपासना का विधान है | इस दिन साधक का मन ‘सहस्त्रार’ चक्र में स्थित रहता है | उसके लिए ब्रह्माण्ड की समस्त सिध्दियों का द्वार खुलने लगता है | इस चक्र में स्थित साधक का मन पूर्णत: माँ कालरात्रि के स्वरूप में अवस्थित रहता है | उनके साक्षात्कार से मिलने वाले पुण्य का वह भागी हो जाता है | उनके समस्त पापों-विघ्नों का नाश हो जाता है | उसे अक्षय पुण्य-लोकों की प्राप्ति होती है |
माँ कालरात्रि दुष्टों का विनाश करने वाली हैं | दानव, दैत्य, राक्षस, भूत, प्रेत आदि इनके स्मरण मात्र से ही भयभीत होकर भाग जाते हैं | ये ग्रह-बाधाओं को भी दूर करने वाली हैं | इनके उपासक को अग्नि-भय, जल-भय, जन्तु-भय, शत्रु-भय, रात्री-भय आदि कभी नहीं होते | इनकी कृपा से वह सर्वथा भय-मुक्त हो जाता है |
माँ कालरात्रि के स्वरूप विग्रह को अपने ह्रदय में अवस्थित करके मनुष्य को एकनिष्ठ भाव से उनकी उपासना करनी चाहिये | यम, नियम, संयम का उसे पूर्ण पालन करना चाहिये | मन, वचन, काया की पवित्रता रखनी चाहिए | वह शुभंकरी देवी हैं | उनकी उपासना से होने वाले शुबहों की गणना नहीं की जा सकती | हमें निरंतर उनका समें, ध्यान और पूजन करना चाहिये |

Om Sri Paramatmane Namah The seventh power of Maa Durga is known as Kalratri. The color of their body is black like a thick darkness. The hair of the head is scattered. There is a garland shining like lightning around the neck. He has three eyes. These three eyes are round like the universe. In these, bright rays like electricity are emitted. Fierce flames of fire keep coming out of their nostrils. Their vehicle is a donkey. She bestows a boon to all with the raised right hand’s boar mudra. The lower right hand is in abhaya mudra. There is an iron fork in the upper left hand and a khadga (dagger) in the lower hand. The nature of Maa Kalratri is very scary to see, but she always gives auspicious results. That is why one of her names is also ‘Shubhankari’. Therefore, there is no need for the devotees to be afraid or panic in any way. There is a law to worship Maa Kalratri on the seventh day of Durga Puja. On this day the mind of the seeker remains situated in the ‘Sahastrar’ chakra. The door of all the achievements of the universe starts opening for him. The mind of the seeker situated in this chakra is completely situated in the form of Maa Kalratri. He becomes a partaker of the virtue he receives from his interview. All their sins and obstacles are destroyed. He attains inexhaustible virtues. Maa Kalratri is the destroyer of the wicked. The demons, demons, demons, ghosts, phantoms etc. get frightened by the mere remembrance of them and run away. These planets are also going to remove the obstacles. His worshipers never have fire-fear, water-fear, animal-fear, enemy-fear, night-fear etc. By their grace he becomes completely fear-free. By keeping the Deity in the form of Maa Kalratri in one’s heart, one should worship her with a sincere feeling. He should follow Yama, Niyama, Sanyam completely. Purity of mind, speech and body should be maintained. She is Shubhankari Devi. The auspiciousness of his worship cannot be counted. We should constantly worship, meditate and worship them.
