भगवान शिव दिन-रात भगवान राम के पावन नाम का स्मरण करते रहते हैं और उसी नाम के बल पर काशी में मरने वाले जीवों को मुक्ति का उपदेश दिया करते हैं।
जब उन्होंने सुना कि उनके इष्टदेव श्रीराम का अवतार अयोध्या में हो गया, तब उनके हृदय में भगवान राम के दर्शन की लालसा अत्यंत ही बलवती हो गई। वह सोचने लगे कि भगवान का दर्शन किस तरह हो ?
अंत में उन्हें एक युक्ति सूझी। उन्होंने भगवान श्रीराम के अनन्य भक्त काकभुशुण्डि को बुलाया और उन्हें साथ लेकर आंखों में प्रभु दर्शन की लालसा लिए अयोध्या के लिए चल पड़े। वह स्वयं एक ज्योतिषी के रूप में थे और काकभुशुण्डि उनके शिष्य के रूप में उनके पीछे-पीछे चल रहे थे।
इस प्रकार देवाधिदेव भगवान शिव और परम भागवत काकभुशुण्डि गुरु शिष्य के रूप में अयोध्या पहुंचे। उस समय वे मनुष्य रूप थे, इसलिए उन्हें कोई पहचान न सका।
बहुत देर तक इधर-उधर अयोध्या की गलियों में भ्रमण करने के बाद भी भगवान शिव को प्रभु के दर्शन का कोई उपयुक्त उपाय नहीं दिखाई दिया। आंखें अतृप्त-की-अतृप्त ही रहीं। अंत में भगवान शिव एक जगह बैठ गए और काकभुशुण्डिजी ने क्षण भर में एक बहुत ही प्रसिद्ध एवं अत्यंत अनुभववृद्ध ज्योतिषी के आगमन की बात अयोध्या के घर-घर में फैला दी।
लोग झुंड के झुंड ज्योतिषी के पास आने लगे और भगवान शंकर ने उन्हें हर प्रकार से संतुष्ट करके भेजना शुरू कर दिया। भला, त्रिकालज्ञ भगवान शिव से किसी के भूत, भविष्य और वर्तमान की बातें कैसे छिप सकती थीं। चारों ओर भगवान शिव की ज्योतिष मर्मज्ञता की ही चर्चा हो रही थी।
कुछ समय में ही ज्योतिषी की विशेषता की चर्चा राजभवन की दासियों ने सुनी और उन्होंने भी अपने बच्चों के भविष्य की जानकारी ज्योतिषी महाराज से प्राप्त की। फिर भगवान शिव के भाग्योदय का समय आ गया। शीघ्र ही दासियों के माध्यम से राजभवन में कौशल्या अम्बा तक प्रकांड ज्योतिषी के आगमन का समाचार पहुंच गया। जल्दी ही भगवान शिव को सम्मान के साथ कौशल्या के महल में दासियों के द्वारा बुलवाया गया।
भगवान शिव के आनंद का तो पारावार ही न रहा। जब उन्होंने सर्वतंत्र-स्वतंत्र प्रभु को कौशल्या अम्बा की गोद में बैठकर मंद-मंद मुस्कुराते हुए देखा तो उनके मुख से बरबस ही शब्द फूट पड़े-
व्यापक ब्रह्म निरंजन निर्गुन बिगत बिनोद।
सो अज प्रेम भगति बस कौसल्या के गोद।।
भगवान शिव का राजमहल में यथोचित सत्कार किया गया। सुमित्रा तथा कैकेयी भी अपने पुत्रों के साथ कौशल्या के भवन में पहुंचीं। सभी माताओं ने भगवान शिव के चरणों में रख कर बालकों को प्रणाम करवाया और उनसे अपने बच्चों का भविष्य बताने की प्रार्थना की। भगवान शिव ने भगवान श्रीराम तथा शेष तीनों भाइयों के सुयश का विस्तार से वर्णन किया।
उन्होंने विश्वामित्र की यज्ञ-रक्षा, सीता स्वयंवर, ताड़का वध, राक्षसों के विनाश एवं भक्तों के कल्याण की खूब चर्चा की। प्रभु श्रीराम के करार विंदों को तो वे छोडऩा ही नहीं चाहते थे परंतु इस सुख से वे शीघ्र ही वंचित कर दिए गए, क्योंकि भगवान को भूख लग रही थी और वह मातृस्तनों का पान करना चाहते थे। तदनन्तर शंकरजी रनिवास को आनंद में डूबा छोड़कर कैलाश लौट आए। ।। जय शिवशंकर जय श्रीराम ।।

When he heard that the incarnation of his presiding deity Shri Ram took place in Ayodhya, then the craving to see Lord Rama in his heart became very strong. He started thinking how to see God?
Finally they thought of a device. He called Kakbhusundi, the exclusive devotee of Lord Shri Ram and took him along and walked for Ayodhya for the longing to see Lord Prabhu in his eyes. He himself was as an astrologer and Kakbhusundi was following him as his disciple.
Thus Devadhidev reached Ayodhya as Lord Shiva and Param Bhagwat Kakbhusundi Guru. At that time he was a human form, so no one could recognize him.
Even after visiting the streets of Ayodhya for a long time, Lord Shiva did not see any appropriate solution to see the Lord. The eyes remained unquestionable. In the end, Lord Shiva sat in one place and Kakbhusundiji spread the matter of the arrival of a very famous and extremely experienced astrologer in Ayodhya’s house in a moment.
People started coming to the astrologer of herds and Lord Shankar started sending them satisfied in every way. Well, how could someone hide the words of someone’s ghost, future and present from Trikalna Lord Shiva. The astrology of Lord Shiva was being discussed all around.
In some time, the specialist of the astrologer was heard by the maids of Raj Bhavan and they also got information about the future of their children from astrologer Maharaj. Then the time has come for the fate of Lord Shiva. Soon, the news of the arrival of the astrologer reached Kaushalya Amba in the Raj Bhavan through the maids. Soon Lord Shiva was called by maids in Kaushalya’s palace with respect.
The joy of Lord Shiva did not have a cross. When he saw Sarvantra-Swatantra Prabhu sitting on the lap of Kaushalya Amba and smiling, the words erupted from his mouth-
Extensive Brahma Niranjan Nirgun Bagat Binod. So Aj Prem Bhagati is the lap of Kausalya.
Lord Shiva was appreciated in the palace. Sumitra and Kaikeyi also reached Kaushalya’s building with their sons. All the mothers kept the boys at the feet of Lord Shiva and prayed to them to tell the future of their children. Lord Shiva described in detail the suyash of Lord Shri Ram and the remaining three brothers.
He discussed the Yajna-safety of Vishwamitra, Sita Swayamvar, Tadka Slaughter, destruction of demons and welfare of devotees. He did not want to leave the contracts of Prabhu Shri Ram, but he was deprived of this happiness soon, because God was feeling hungry and he wanted to drink the mother -in -law.
