श्रद्धा और विश्वास

एक सेठ बड़ा धार्मिक था संपन्न भी था। एक बार उसने अपने घर पर पूजा पाठ रखी और पूरे शहर को न्यौता दिया। पूजा पाठ के लिए बनारस से एक विद्वान शास्त्री जी को बुलाया गया और खान पान की व्यवस्था के लिए शुद्ध घी के भोजन की व्यवस्था की गई। जिसके बनाने के लिए एक महिला जो पास के गांव में रहती थी को सुपुर्द कर दिया गया।*

शास्त्री जी कथा आरंभ करते हैं, गायत्री मंत्र का जाप करते हैं और उसकी महिमा बताते हैं उसके हवन पाठ इत्यादि होता है लोग बाग आने लगे और अंत में सब भोजन का आनंद लेते घर वापस हो जाते हैं। ये सिलसिला रोज़ चलता है।*

भोज्य प्रसाद बनाने वाली महिला बड़ी कुशल थी वो अपना काम करके बीच बीच में कथा आदि सुन लिया करती थी।*

रोज की तरह एक दिन शास्त्री जी ने गायत्री मंत्र का जाप किया और उसकी महिमा का बखान करते हुए बोले कि इस महामंत्र को पूरे मन से एकाग्रचित होकर किया जाए तो इस भव सागर से पार जाया जा सकता है। इंसान जन्म मरण के झंझटों से मुक्त हो सकता है।*

खैर करते करते कथा का अंतिम दिन आ गया। वह महिला उस दिन समय से पहले आ गई और शास्त्री जी के पास पहुंची, उन्हें प्रणाम किया और बोली कि शास्त्री जी आपसे एक निवेदन है।”*

शास्त्री उसे पहचानते थे उन्होंने उसे चौके में खाना बनाते हुए देखा था। वो बोले कहो क्या कहना चाहती हो ?”*

वो थोड़ा सकुचाते हुए बोली शास्त्री जी मैं एक गरीब महिला हूँ और पड़ोस के गांव में रहती हूँ। मेरी इच्छा है कि आज का भोजन आप मेरी झोपड़ी में करें।”*

सेठ जी भी वहीं थे, वो थोड़ा क्रोधित हुए लेकिन शास्त्री जी ने बीच में उन्हें रोकते हुए उसका निमंत्रण स्वीकार कर लिया और बोले आप तो अन्नपूर्णा हैं। आप ने इतने दिनों तक स्वादिष्ट भोजन करवाया, मैं आपके साथ कथा के बाद चलूंगा।”*

वो महिला प्रसन्न हो गई और काम में व्यस्त हो गई। कथा खत्म हुई और वो शास्त्री जी के समक्ष पहुंच गई, वायदे के अनुसार वो चल पड़े गांव की सीमा पर पहुंच गए देखा तो सामने नदी है।*

शास्त्री जी ठिठक कर रुक गए बारिश का मौसम होने के कारण नदी उफान पर थी कहीं कोई नाव भी नहीं दिख रही थी। शास्त्री जी को रुकता देख महिला ने अपने वस्त्रों को ठीक से अपने शरीर पर लपेट लिया व इससे पहले की शास्त्रीजी कुछ समझते उसने शास्त्री जी का हाथ थाम कर नदी में छलांग लगा दी और जोर जोर से ऊँ भूर्भुवः स्वः ….. ऊँ भूर्भुवः स्वः बोलने लगी और एक हाथ से तैरते हुए कुछ ही क्षणों में उफनती नदी की तेज़ धारा को पार कर दूसरे किनारे पहुंच गई।

शास्त्री जी पूरे भीग गए और क्रोध में बोले मूर्ख औरत ये क्या पागलपन था अगर डूब जाते तो…?”*

महिला बड़े आत्मविश्वास से बोली शास्त्री जी डूब कैसे जाते ? आप का बताया मंत्र जो साथ था। मैं तो पिछले दस दिनों से इसी तरह नदी पार करके आती और जाती हूँ।*

शास्त्री जी बोले क्या मतलब ??”*

महिला बोली की आप ही ने तो कहा था कि इस मंत्र से भव सागर पार किया जा सकता है। लेकिन इसके कठिन शब्द मुझसे याद नहीं हुए बस मुझे ऊँ भूर्भुवः स्वः याद रह गया तो मैंने सोचा “भव सागर” तो निश्चय ही बहुत विशाल होगा जिसे इस मंत्र से पति किया जा सकता है तो क्या आधा मंत्र से छोटी सी नदी पार नहीं होगी और मैंने पूरी एकाग्रता से इसका जाप करते हुए नदी सही सलामत पार कर ली। बस फिर क्या था मैंने रोज के 20 पैसे इसी तरह बचाए और आपके लिए अपने घर आज की रसोई तैयार की।”*

शास्त्री जी का क्रोध व झुंझलाहट अब तक समाप्त हो चुकी थी। किंकर्तव्यविमूढ़ उसकी बात सुन कर उनकी आँखों में आंसू आ गए और बोले माँ मैंने अनगिनत बार इस मंत्र का जाप किया, पाठ किया और इसकी महिमा बतलाई पर तेरे विश्वास के आगे सब बेसबब रहा।”

“इस मंत्र का जाप जितनी श्रद्धा से तूने किया उसके आगे मैं नतमस्तक हूं। तू धन्य है कह कर उन्होंने उस महिला के चरण स्पर्श किए। उस महिला को कुछ समझ नहीं आ रहा था वो खड़ी की खड़ी रह गई। शास्त्री भाव विभोर से आगे बढ़ गए वो पीछे मुड़ कर बोले मां चलो भोजन नहीं कराओगी बहुत भूख लगी है।”

A Seth was very religious and was also rich. Once he kept a puja at his house and invited the whole city. A scholar Shastri ji was called from Banaras for the worship and for the arrangement of food, arrangements were made for the food of pure ghee. A woman who lived in a nearby village was handed over to make it.*

Shastri ji starts the story, chants the Gayatri Mantra and narrates its glory, his havan is recited, etc. People start coming to the garden and in the end everyone goes back home enjoying the food. This cycle continues everyday.*

The woman who made food offerings was very skilled, she used to do her work and listen to the story in between.

One day as usual, Shastri ji chanted the Gayatri Mantra and while praising its glory, said that if this Mahamantra is done with full concentration, then one can go beyond this ocean of existence. Man can be free from the hassles of birth and death.*

Well, the last day of the story has come. That woman came ahead of time on that day and reached to Shastri ji, bowed to him and said that Shastri ji has a request to you.

Shastri knew him and had seen him cooking in the square. She said, what do you want to say?

She said a little hesitantly, Shastri ji, I am a poor woman and live in a neighboring village. I wish you to have today’s meal in my hut.”*

Seth ji was also there, he got a little angry but Shastri ji accepted his invitation, stopping him in the middle and said that you are Annapurna. You made delicious food for so many days, I will go after the story with you.”*

The woman was pleased and got busy with work. The story ended and she reached in front of Shastri ji, as promised, she went to the village border and saw the river in front.

Shastri ji stopped and stopped due to the rainy season, the river was in spate and no boat was visible. Seeing Shastri ji stopping, the woman wrapped her clothes properly on her body and before Shastriji could understand anything, she took Shastri’s hand and jumped into the river and loudly said Om Bhurbhuvah Swah….. And in a few moments, swimming with one hand, crossed the fast current of the overflowing river and reached the other shore.

Shastri ji got completely drenched and said in anger, what was the madness of a foolish woman if she drowned…?”*

The woman said with great confidence, how could Shastri ji drown? You told the mantra that was with you. I have come and gone by crossing the river like this for the last ten days.*

Shastri ji said what do you mean??

The woman said that you had said that with this mantra one can cross the ocean of existence. But I could not remember its difficult words, just remembered Om Bhurbhuvah self, so I thought “Bhava Sagar” would surely be very huge which can be conquered by this mantra, then wouldn’t a small river be crossed by half a mantra and Chanting it with full concentration, I crossed the river safely. What was it then, I saved 20 paise a day like this and prepared today’s kitchen for you at your home.

Shastri ji’s anger and annoyance was over by now. Hearing this, he got tears in his eyes and said mother, I have recited this mantra countless times, recited and glorified it, but everything was helpless in front of your faith.

“I bow down before you with the devotion you chanted this mantra. Saying you are blessed, he touched the feet of that woman. The woman could not understand anything, she stood standing. Shastri went ahead with emotion As he grew, he turned back and said, mother, let’s not get food, I am very hungry. , Jai Siyaram..
