[ श्रीशुकदेवजी कहते हैं – ] परीक्षित ! इसलिये तुम ऐसा समझ लो कि बड़े-से-बड़े पापों का सर्वोतम, अन्तिम और पापवासनाओं को भी निर्मूल कर डालने वाला प्रायश्चित यही है कि केवल भगवान् के गुणों, लीलाओं और नामों का कीर्तन किया जाय | इसी से संसार का कल्याण हो सकता है ||३१|| जो लोग बार-बार भगवान् के उदार और कृपापूर्ण चरित्रों का श्रवण-कीर्तन करते हैं, उनके ह्रदय में प्रेममयी भक्ति का उदय हो जाता है | उस भक्ति से जैसी आत्मशुद्धि होती है, वैसी कृच्छ्र-चान्द्रायण आदि व्रतों से नहीं होती ||३२|| जो मनुष्य भगवान् श्रीकृष्णचन्द्र के चरणारविन्द-मकरन्द-रस का लोभी भ्रमर है, वह स्वभाव से ही माया के आपातरम्य, दु:खद और पहले से ही छोड़े हुए विषयों में फिर नहीं रमता | किन्तु जो लोग उस दिव्य रस से विमुख हैं कामनाओं ने जिनकी विवेक बुद्धि पर पानी फेर दिया है, वे अपने पापों का मार्जन करने के लिये पुन: प्रायश्चितरूप कर्म ही करते हैं | इससे होता यह है कि उनके कर्मों की वासना मिटती नहीं और वे फिर वैसे ही दोष कर बैठते हैं ||३३||
परीक्षित ! जब यमदूतों ने अपने स्वामी धर्मराज के मुख से इस प्रकार भगवान् की महिमा सुनी और उनका स्मरण किया, तब उनके आश्चर्य की सीमा न रही | तभी से वे धर्मराज की बात पर विश्वास करके अपने नाश की आशंका से भगवान् के आश्रित भक्तों के पास नहीं जाते | और तो क्या, वे उनकी ओर आँख उठाकर देखने से भी डरते हैं ||३४|| प्रिय परीक्षित ! यह इतिहास परम गोपनीय-अत्यन्त रहस्यमय है | मलयपर्वत पर विराजमान भगवान् अगस्त्यजी ने श्रीहरि की पूजा करते समय मुझे यह सुनाया था ||३५|| (श्रीमदभा, स्क. ६, अ. १-३ ) |

Therefore you should understand that the ultimate, ultimate atonement for even the greatest of sins and the one who destroys sinful desires is that only the qualities, pastimes and names of the Lord should be chanted. By this the welfare of the world can be done ||31|| Those who repeatedly hear and chant the benevolent and merciful character of the Lord, loving devotion arises in their hearts. As self-purification is done by that devotion, similar fasts like Krichhra-Chandrayana etc. do not happen ||32|| The man who is in a covetous delusion of the Charanarvinda-Makaranda-Rasa of Lord Sri Krishnachandra, by nature, does not get engrossed in the sudden, sad and already abandoned objects of Maya. But those who are detached from that transcendental rasa, whose desires have tainted their conscience and intellect, they again do atonement for the purpose of getting rid of their sins. By this it happens that the lust of their karma does not fade away and they again commit the same sins ||33|| Tested! When the eunuchs heard the glory of the Lord in this way from the mouth of their master Dharmaraja and remembered Him, their wonder knew no bounds. Since then, believing in Dharmaraja’s words, he does not go to the devotees of the Lord, fearing his destruction. What’s more, they are afraid to even look up to them.||34|| Dear Parikshit! This history is very secret – very mysterious.
