कार्तिक मास सोमवार-10 अक्टूबर से मंगलवार- 8 नवंबर तक है ।
कार्तिक में दीपदान :दीपदान अर्थात दीये जलाना
कार्तिक मास में दीपदान निश्चित ही भगवान् विष्णु की प्रसन्नता बढ़ाने वाला है ।
कार्तिक मास आने पर जो लोग प्रातः स्नान करके आकाश दीपदान करते हैं, वे लोक सब लोकों के स्वामी होकर और सब संपत्तियों से संपन्न होकर इस लोक में सुख भोगते हैं और अंत में मोक्ष को प्राप्त होते हैं ।
घृतेन दीपको यस्य तिलतैलेन वा पुनः।
ज्वलते यस्य सेनानीरश्वमेधेन तस्य किम्।
कार्तिक में घी अथवा तिल के तेल से जिसका दीपक जलता रहता है, उसे अश्वमेध यज्ञ से क्या लेना है ।
सूर्यग्रहे कुरुक्षेत्रे नर्मदायां शशिग्रहे ।
तुलादानस्य यत्पुण्यं तदत्र दीपदानतः ।।
कुरुक्षेत्र में सूर्यग्रहण के समय और नर्मदा में चन्द्रग्रहण के समय अपने वजन के बराबर स्वर्ण के तुलादान करने का जो पुण्य है वह केवल दीपदान से मिल जाता है ।
जो कोमल तुलसी दल से भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करके रात में उनके लिए आकाशदीप का दान करते हैं वे परम भाग्यशाली होते हैं ।
आकाश दीप दान देते समय इस मंत्र का उच्चारण करें !
दामोदराय विश्वाय विश्वरूपधराय च ।
नमस्कृत्वा प्रदास्यामि व्योम्दीपम हरिप्रियम ।।
अर्थात- मैं सर्वस्वरूप भगवान् दामोदर को नमस्कार करके यह आकाशदीप देता हूँ, जो भगवान् को परमप्रिय हैं ।
कार्तिक मास में दुर्लभ मनुष्य जन्म को पाकर भगवान विष्णु को प्रिय लगने वाले आकाशदीप का दान देना चाहिए ।
जो संसार में भगवन विष्णु की प्रसन्नता के लिए आकाशदीप देते हैं वे कभी अत्यंत क्रूर यमराज के दर्शन नहीं करते ।
एकादशी से, तुलाराशि के सूर्य से अथवा आश्विन पूर्णिमा से लक्ष्मी सहित विष्णु की प्रसन्नता के लिए आकाशदीप प्रारंभ करना चाहिए ।
कार्तिक में दीपदान का एक मुख्य उद्देश्य पितरों का मार्ग प्रशस्त करना भी है ।
महादेव कार्तिक में दीपदान का माहात्म्य सुनाते हुए अपने पुत्र कार्तिकेय से कहते हैं ।
शृणु दीपस्य माहात्म्यं कार्तिके शिखिवाहन।
पितरश्चैव वांच्छंति सदा पितृगणैर्वृताः।
भविष्यति कुलेऽस्माकं पितृभक्तः सुपुत्रकः।
कार्तिके दीपदानेन यस्तोषयति केशवम्।।
मनुष्य के पितर अन्य पितृगणों के साथ सदा इस बात की अभिलाषा करते हैं कि क्या हमारे कुल में भी कोई ऐसा उत्तम पितृभक्त पुत्र उत्पन्न होगा, जो कार्तिक में दीपदान करके श्रीकेशव को संतुष्ट कर सके।
पितरों की प्रसन्नता के लिये दीपदान:
नमः पितृभ्यः प्रेतेभ्यो नमो धर्माय विष्णवे ।
नमो यमाय रुद्राय कान्तारपतये नमः ।।
अर्थात- पितरों को नमस्कार है, प्रेतों को नमस्कार है, धर्म स्वरुप विष्णु को नमस्कार है, यमराज को नमस्कार है तथा दुर्गम पथ में रक्षा करने वाले भगवान् रूद्र को नमस्कार है ।
इस मंत्र से जो मनुष्य पितरों के लिए आकाश में दीपदान करते हैं उनके वे पित्र नरक में हो तो भी उत्तम गति को प्राप्त होते हैं ।
जो देवालय में, नदी के किनारे, सड़क पर तथा नींद लेने के स्थान पर दीपदान करता है उसे सर्वोत्मुखी लक्ष्मी प्राप्त होती है ।
जो मंदिर में दीप जलाता है वह विष्णुलोक को जाता है ।
जो कीट और काँटों भरी हुई दुर्गम एवं ऊँची नीची भूमि पर दीपदान करता है वह कभी नरक में नहीं पड़ता ।
महादेव की प्रसन्नता के लिए safflower oil(कुसुंभ का तेल) का या घी का दीपक प्रतिदिन प्रदोष काल में शिव मंदिर में शिवलिंग के समक्ष जलाएँ ।
दीपदान करने वाला पुरुष परलोक में दिव्य नेत्र प्राप्त करता है ।
दीपदान करने वाले मनुष्य निश्चय ही पूर्ण चन्द्रमा के समान कांतिमान होते हैं। जितने पलकों के गिरने तक दीपक जलते है, उतने वर्षों तक दीपदान करने वाला मनुष्य रूपवान और बलवान होता है ।
ध्यान रखें :
जहाँ भी दीपक जलाएँ, उससे पहले भूमि पर कुछ अक्षत(अखंडित चावल) रख दें, उसके उपर दीपक रखें ।
आकाशदेवता के लिए दीपक(आकाश को दिखाकर खुली जगह पर रखें)- विशेषकर शाम को अर्थात प्रदोष काल में या दोनों समय !
नारायण के लिए- सुबह और शाम
शिव मंदिर में- शाम को प्रदोषकाल में
तुलसी जी में- सुबह और शाम
पितरों के लिए-शाम को खुली जगह में (छत इत्यादि पर)पश्चिम दिशा में
सोने की जगह-दोनों समय लगा सकते हैं ।
बाकी सब जगह(मंदिर/नदी/तालाव/देव वृक्षों(पीपल-वड़-बेलपत्र) इत्यादि के नीचे-शाम को
गौशाला में सुबह या शाम
दीपक की लौ हमेशा पूर्व या उतर में रखें ।

At the time of solar eclipse in Kurukshetra and lunar eclipse in Narmada, the merit of donating gold weighing equal to one’s own weight is attained only by donating a lamp.
Those who worship Lord Vishnu with a gentle Tulsi group and donate a sky lamp for him at night, they are extremely fortunate.
Chant this mantra while donating the sky lamp.
O Dāmodara, you are the universal form of the universe. I offer my obeisances to you and offer you the sky lamp dear to the Lord Hari.
Meaning- I give this sky lamp by saluting Lord Damodar in all forms, who is most dear to the Lord.
In the month of Kartik, after attaining a rare human birth, one should donate the sky lamp which is dear to Lord Vishnu. Those who give sky lamps for the happiness of Lord Vishnu in the world, they never see the very cruel Yamraj.
Akashdeep should be started from Ekadashi, from Sun in Tula Rashi or from Ashwin Purnima for the happiness of Vishnu along with Lakshmi.
One of the main purposes of lamp donation in Kartik is to pave the way for the ancestors.
Mahadev tells his son Kartikeya while narrating the greatness of lamp donation in Kartik.
O rider of peacocks hear the greatness of the lamp in Kartika The fathers also desire it always surrounded by hosts of ancestors He will be a good son in our family who will be devoted to his father He who satisfies Lord Kesava by offering lamps in Kartika.
The ancestors of human beings along with other ancestors always wish that such a perfect paternal son will be born in our family too, who can satisfy Srikeshav by donating a lamp in Kartika.
Lamp donation for the happiness of ancestors:
I offer my respectful obeisances unto the forefathers, the dead, and to Lord Viṣṇu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. I offer my obeisances to Yama, Rudra, lord of the forests.
That is, salutations to the ancestors, salutations to the demons, salutations to Vishnu in the form of dharma, salutations to Yamraj and salutations to Lord Rudra, who protects the inaccessible path.
With this mantra, those who donate lamps in the sky for the ancestors, their ancestors are in hell, even if they are in hell, they get the best speed.
One who donates a lamp in the temple, on the banks of the river, on the road and at the place of sleeping, he gets the supreme Lakshmi. One who lights the lamp in the temple goes to Vishnuloka.
One who lights a lamp on the inaccessible and high and low ground full of insects and thorns, he never falls in hell.
For the happiness of Mahadev, light a lamp of safflower oil (safflower oil) or ghee daily in front of Shivling in Shiva temple during Pradosh period.
The person who donates the lamp gets the divine eye in the hereafter. The person who donates the lamp definitely shines like a full moon. As long as the lamp burns till the fall of the eyelids, the person who donates the lamp for so many years becomes handsome and strong.
Keep in mind: Wherever the lamp is lit, before that put some Akshat (unbroken rice) on the ground, place a lamp on it.

For Narayan – morning and evening In Shiva temple – in the evening in Pradosh Kaal In Tulsi ji – morning and evening For ancestors – in the evening in the open space (on the terrace etc.) in the west direction Instead of sleeping – both can take time. Every other place (under temple/river/pond/dev trees (peepal-vad-belpatra) etc.) – in the evening Morning or evening in Gaushala Always keep the flame of the lamp in the east or north.
