ऐसा कोई जिससे कोई अपराध न बना हो

एक दिन बादशाह अकबरके दरबारमें बड़े जोरोंका कोलाहल सुनायी पड़ा। सभी लोग बीरबलके विरुद्ध नारे लगा रहे थे। आवाज आ रही थी ‘वीरवल बड़ा नीच है, भारी बदमाश है, बड़ा घातक है।’

बादशाहको क्रोध आ गया आज्ञा हो गयी बस, बीरबलको तुरंत शूलीपर चढ़ा दिया जाय।’

दिन निश्चित हुआ। शूली तैयार हुई। वीरवलने बादशाहसे अन्तिम बात कर लेनेका अवसर माँगा। बातचीतमें उसने कहा-‘मैंने सारी चीजें तो आपको बतला दीं, पर मोती बोनेकी कला आपको न सिखा सका।’

अकबरने कहा- ‘सच! क्या तुम इसे जानते हो ? तो ठीक जबतक मैं यह सीख न लूँ, तबतक तुम्हें। जीनेका अवसर दिया जाता है।’

वीरवलने कतिपय विशिष्ट महलोंकी ओर संकेत करते हुए कहा- ‘इन मकानोंको ढहवा दिया जाय क्योंकि इसी जमीनमें उत्तम मोती पैदा हो सकते हैं।’मकान ढहवा दिये गये। ये महल उन्हीं दरबारियोंके थे, जिन्होंने बीरबलके विरुद्ध झूठी शिकायत की थी- वहाँ बीरबलने जौ बनवा दिये। एक निश्चित दिनपर उसने सब लोगोंको पौधोंको दिखलानेके लिये बुलाया और कहा कि ‘कल प्रातःकाल ये पौधे मुक्ता उत्पन्न करेंगे और कल ही इन्हें काटा जायगा ।’

सभी लोग पधारे। ओसकी बूँदे जौके पौधों और पत्तोंपर मोतीकी तरह चमक रही थीं। बीरबलने कहा ‘अब आपलोगोंमें जो सर्वथा निरपराधी- दूधका धोया हो, इन मोतियोंको काट ले। सावधान! यदि किसीने कभी एक भी अपराध किया होगा तो ये मोती पानी होकर गिर पड़ेंगे।’

सभी शान्त थे । बीरबलने अकबरको हाथ बढ़ाने के लिये कहा । पर बादशाह समझ गया- सभीसे अपराध होते हैं। बीरबलका कोई दोष था भी नहीं, यह तो दरबारियोंका एक षड्यन्त्र मात्र था। बीरबलको अभियोगसे मुक्त कर दिया गया। – जा0 श0

One day a loud noise was heard in the court of Emperor Akbar. Everyone was raising slogans against Birbal. The voice was coming ‘Veerval is very mean, very scoundrel, very dangerous’.
The king got angry and ordered that Birbal should be crucified immediately.
The day is fixed. Shuli is ready. Veerval asked for an opportunity to have the last talk with the king. In the conversation, he said – ‘I told you everything, but could not teach you the art of sowing pearls.’
Akbar said – ‘True! do you know it Well, until I learn that, you One is given the opportunity to live.
Pointing to some specific palaces, Veerval said- ‘These houses should be demolished because the best pearls can be produced in this land.’ The houses were demolished. This palace belonged to those courtiers who had made a false complaint against Birbal – Birbal got barley made there. On a certain day he called everyone to show the plants and said that ‘tomorrow morning these plants will produce mukta and tomorrow they will be cut.’
Everyone came. The dew drops were shining like pearls on the barley plants and leaves. Birbal said, ‘Now whoever is completely innocent among you, who has washed the milk, cut these pearls. Attention If anyone has ever committed a single crime, these pearls will fall like water.’
Everyone was calm. Birbal asked Akbar to raise his hand. But the king understood – everyone commits crimes. There was no fault of Birbal, it was just a conspiracy of the courtiers. Birbal was acquitted of the charges. – Ja0 Sh0
