लुकमान के जीवन मे उल्लेख है कि एक आदमी को उसने भारत भेजा आयुर्वेद की शिक्षा के लिए और उससे कहा कि तू बबूल के वृक्ष के नीचे सोता हुआ भारत पहुच। और किसी दूसरे वृक्ष के नीचे न तो आराम करना और न ही सोना। वह आदमी जब तक भारत आया, क्षय रोग से पीड़ित हो गया था। कश्मीर पहुंचकर उसने पहले चिकित्सक को कहा कि मैं तो मरा जा रहा हूं। मैं तो सीखने आया था आयुर्वेद, अब सीखना नहीं है। सिर्फ मेरी चिकित्सा कर दें। मैं ठीक हो जाऊं तो अपने घर वापस लोटू। उस वैद्य न उससे कहा, तू किसी विशेष वृक्ष के नीचे सोता हुआ तो नहीं आया?
उस आदमी ने तपाक से कहा: हां मुझे मेरे गुरु ने आज्ञा दी थी कि तू बबूल के वृक्ष के नीचे सोता हुआ जाना।
वह वैद्य हंसा। उसने कहा, तू कुछ मत कर। तू अब नीम के वृक्ष के नीचे सोता हुआ वापस लौट जा।‘’ वह नीम के वृक्ष के नीचे सोता हुआ वापस लौट गया। वह जैसा स्वास्थ चला था, वैसा स्वास्थ लुकमान के पास पहुंच गया।
लुकमान ने उससे पूछा: ‘’तू जिन्दा लौट आया, अब आयुर्वेद में जरूर कोई राज है।”
उसने कहा: ‘लेकिन मैंने कोई चिकित्सा नहीं की।’
लुकमान ने कहा: इसका कोई सवाल नहीं है। क्योंकि मैंने तुझे जिस वृक्ष के नीचे सोते हुए भेजा था। तू जिन्दा लौट नहीं सकता था। तू लौटा कैसे। क्या किसी और वृक्ष ने नीचे सोत हुआ लौटा है।
उसने कहा: ‘ मुझ आज्ञा दी कि अब बबूल से बचूं। और नीम के नीचे सोता हुआ लौट जाऊं। तो लुकमान ने कहा कि वह भी जानते है।
असल में बबूल सक-अप करता है एनर्जी को। आपकी जो एनर्जी है, आपकी जो प्राण ऊर्जा है, उसे बबूल पीता है। बबूल के नीचे भूलकर मत सोना। और अगर बबूल की दातुन की जाती रही है तो उसका कुल कारण इतना है कि बबूल की दातुन में सर्वाधिक जीवन एनर्जी होती है। वह आपके दांतों को फायदा पहुंचा देती है। क्योंकि वह पाता रहता है। जो भी निकलेगा पास से वह उसकी एनर्जी पी लेता है। नीम आपकी एनर्जी नहीं पीता है। बल्कि अपनी एनर्जी आपको दे देता है। अपनी ऊर्जा आप पर उड़ेल देता है।
लेकिन पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे भी मत सोना। क्योंकि पीपल का वृक्ष ज्यादा एनर्जी उड़ेल देता है कि उसकी वजह से आप बीमार पड़ जाएंगे। पीपल का वृक्ष सर्वाधिक शक्ति देने वाला वृक्ष है। इसलिए यह हैरानी की बात नहीं है कि पीपल का वृक्ष बोधि-वृक्ष बन गया, उसके नीचे लोगों को बुद्धत्व मिला। उसका कारण है कि वह सर्वाधिक शक्ति दे पाता है। वह अपने चारों और से शक्ति आप पर लुटा देता है। लेकिन साधारण आदमी उतनी शक्ति नहीं झेल पाएगा। सिर्फ पीपल अकेला वृक्ष है पृथ्वी पर जो रात में भी और दिन में भी पूरे समय शक्ति दे रहा है। इसलिए उसको देवता कहा जाने लगा। उसकी और कोई कारण नहीं है। सिर्फ देवता ही हो सकता है जो ले न और देता ही चला जाए। लेता नहीं, लेता ही नहीं देता ही चला जाता है

Peepal is only the only tree on the earth, which is giving power throughout the night and also in the day. Therefore, he came to be called a deity. There is no reason for that.
