रामायणकी शक्तिकी कौन कहे, क्या कहीं नजर आता है ऐसा सम्राट्, साम्राज्य, अवतार या पैगम्बर जो भगवान् श्रीरामकी तुलनामें ठहर सके ? सबके खण्डहर आर्तनाद कर रहे हैं, किंतु रामायणका राजा, उसकी मर्यादा, उसका धर्म, उसके द्वारा स्थापित रामराज्य भारतवासिओंके मानसको आज भी ज्यों-का-त्यों प्रेरी-प्रभावित कर रहा है ।
‘चक्रवर्ती राज्यको त्यागकर वल्कलवेशमें भी प्रसन्नवदन रहनेवाले, राजपुत्र, किंतु अयोध्यासे रामेश्वरम् तक लोकजीवनके बीच एक सामाय जनकी भाँति विचरण करनेवाले शबरीकी भक्तिके वशीभूत हो उसके जूठे बेर खानेवाले और अहल्याका उद्धार करनेवाले श्रीरामने रावणकी लंका जीती, किंतु फूलकी तरह उसे अर्पण कर दिया उस विभीषणको जिसने डिक्टेटर तथा धर्मद्रोही भाई (रावण)का विरोधकर प्रजातन्त्रका ध्वज फहराया था ।‘
ऐसे थे रामायणके श्रीराम, जिनकी जीवन-गाथा रामायणमें अजर-अमर है । इस देशको मिटानेके लिये बड़ी-बड़ी ताकतें आयीं – मुग़ल, शक, हूण आये; किंतु वे इसे मिटा न सके । कैसे मिटाते ? रामायण जन-जनको प्रेरणा जो दे रही थी, स्वधर्म तथा स्वदेशकी रक्षाकी ।
