अग्नि के आविष्कार के पश्चात् संपूर्ण मानव जाति ने अंधकार से प्रकाश तक पहुंचने के वाहक के रूप में दीपक को स्वीकार किया है। यही कारण है कि हम हिंदुओं का कोई भी धार्मिक – अनुष्ठान दीपक जलाए बिना पूरा नहीं होता है।
दीपावली आलोक का पर्व है ,जो वैदिक
ऋषियों की इस कामना की प्रत्यक्ष अभिव्यक्ति है –
जीवा ज्योति ऋषिर्मय (ऋग्वेद)
अर्थात् हम प्रतिदिन जीवन जीते हुए ज्योति की उपलब्धि कर उससे उल्लसित होते रहें।मानव की अपूर्णता से पूर्णता की ओर उर्ध्वमुखी यात्रा ही तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय की मंत्र – प्रार्थना सृजित करती है।
अथर्ववेद में उल्लेख है –
**
आ रोह तमसो ज्योति अर्थात् अंधकार (अज्ञान)
से निकलकर प्रकाश (ज्ञान) की ओर बढ़े।
महर्षि वेदव्यास जी ने पांडवों की वन-यात्रा के समय युधिष्ठिर को आत्मिक दीपक को प्रज्वलित करने का दिव्य – संदेश दिया था।
सत्याधारस्तपस्तैलं दयावर्ति: क्षमा शिखा।
अंधकार प्रवेष्ट्यो दीपो यत्नेन वार्यताम्।।
अर्थात् – युधिष्ठिर ! जब भी तुम्हारे जीवन में दु:खों , कष्टों का अंधकार आए , तो तुम यत्न से दीपक जलाना । ऐसा दीपक , जिसका आधार सत्य हो , जिसमें तेल तप यानी साधना का हो , जिसकी बाती दया की हो और शिखा से विकसित लौ क्षमा की हो।
भगवान श्री कृष्ण गीता में कहते हैं –

तेषामेवानुकम्पार्थमहमज्ञानजं तम:।
नाशयाम्यात्मभावस्थो ज्ञानदीपेन भास्वता।।
अर्थ – उनके (भक्तों के) ऊपर अनुग्रह करने के लिए उनके अंतःकरण में स्थित हुआ मैं स्वयं ही उनके अज्ञान जनित अंधकार को प्रकाश मय तत्वज्ञानरूप दीपक के द्वारा नष्ट कर देता हूं।
रामचरितमानस में –
**
राम नाम मनिदीप धरु जीह देहरीं द्वार।
तुलसी भीतर बाहेरहुं जौं चाहसि उजिआर ।।
11 या 21 दीपों को प्रज्वलित कर दीपावली
की स्तुति निम्नलिखित मंत्र से की जाती है –
त्वं ज्योतिस्तवं रविश्चन्द्रो विद्युदग्निश्च तारका:।
सर्वेषां ज्योतिषां ज्योतिर्दीपावल्यै नमो नमः।।
दीपावली पर्व पर अभिलाषा –

मिटे अंधेरा अंतर्मन का,साथी ऐसी ज्योति जलाओ।
जल जाए सब कलुष धरा का, दीपराग ऐसा कुछ गाओ।।
प्रेम,दया और मानवता का,सारे जग को पाठ पढ़ाओ।
आलोकित हो जाए जनमन,ऐसा जगमग दीप जलाओ।।

After the invention of fire, the entire human race has accepted the lamp as a vehicle to reach light from darkness. This is the reason that no religious ritual of us Hindus is complete without lighting a lamp.
Deepawali is the festival of light, which is the Vedic The direct expression of this wish of the sages is –
Jiva Jyoti Rishirmaya (Rigveda)
That is, by achieving the light we live in daily life, keep getting ecstatic from it. It is the upward journey from imperfection of human beings to perfection that creates the mantra-prayer of Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya.
The Atharva Veda mentions – ** A roh tamaso jyoti means darkness (ignorance) from the light (knowledge).
Maharishi Ved Vyas ji had given a divine message to Yudhishthira to light the spiritual lamp during the Pandavas’s forest journey.
Truth is the basis of austerity, the oil of compassion, and forgiveness is the crest. The lamp should be extinguished with great care as it enters the darkness
That is, Yudhishthira! Whenever the darkness of sorrows and sufferings comes in your life, then you diligently light the lamp. Such a lamp, whose base is true, in which oil is for penance, that is, sadhana, whose wick is of mercy and the flame developed from the crest is of forgiveness.
Lord Krishna says in the Gita – * For their own sake I am the darkness born of ignorance. I destroy them by the shining lamp of knowledge in my Self-being.
Meaning – To be kind to them (devotees) established in their conscience, I myself destroy the darkness born of their ignorance with the light of the lamp of Tatvjnana.
In Ramcharitmanas – , Ram Naam Manideep Dharu Jih Dehrien Dwar. Tulsi is inside and out and wants to be Ujiar.
Diwali by lighting 11 or 21 lamps It is praised with the following mantra –
You are the light, the Sun, the Moon, the lightning, the fire and the stars. I offer my obeisances to the light of all lights.
Wishes on Diwali festival , Eradicate the darkness of the inner soul, mate, light such a light. Sing something like this, if everyone burns the earth, Deeprag.
Teach the whole world a lesson of love, kindness and humanity. Be illuminated, people, light such a sparkling lamp.
