अकबर ने एक ब्राह्मण को दयनीय हालत में जब भिक्षाटन करते देखा तो बीरबल की ओर व्यंग्य कसकर बोले – ‘बीरबल ! ये हैं तुम्हारे ब्राह्मण ! जिन्हें ब्रह्म देवता के रुप में जाना जाता है । ये तो भिखारी हैं ।
बीरबल ने उस समय तो कुछ नहीं कहा । लेकिन जब अकबर महल में चला गया तो बीरबल वापिस आया और ब्राह्मण से पूछा कि वह भिक्षाटन क्यों करता है ?
ब्राह्मण ने कहा – ‘मेरे पास धन, आभूषण, भूमि कुछ नहीं है और मैं ज्यादा शिक्षित भी नहीं हूँ । इसलिए परिवार के पोषण हेतू भिक्षाटन मेरी मजबूरी है ।
बीरबल ने पूछा – ‘भिक्षाटन से दिन में कितना प्राप्त हो जाता है ?
ब्राह्मण ने जवाब दिया – ‘छह से आठ अशर्फियाँ ।
बीरबल ने कहा – ‘आपको यदि कुछ काम मिले तो क्या आप भिक्षा मांगना छोड़ देंगे ?’
ब्राह्मण ने पूछा – ‘मुझे क्या करना होगा ?’
बीरबल ने कहा – ‘आपको ब्रह्ममुहूर्त में स्नान कर स्वच्छ वस्त्र धारण करके प्रतिदिन 101 माला गायत्री मन्त्र का जाप करना होगा और इसके लिए आपको प्रतिदिन भेंट स्वरूप 10 अशर्फियाँ प्राप्त होंगी ।’
बीरबल का प्रस्ताव ब्राह्मण ने स्वीकार कर लिया । अगले दिन से ब्राह्मण ने भिक्षाटन करना बन्द कर दिया और बड़ी श्रद्धा भाव से गायत्री मन्त्र जाप करना प्रारम्भ कर दिया और शाम को 10 अशर्फियाँ भेंट स्वरूप लेकर अपने घर लौट आता । ब्राह्मण की सच्ची श्रद्धा व लगन देखकर कुछ दिनों बाद बीरबल ने गायत्री मन्त्र जाप की संख्या और अशर्फियों की संख्या दोनों ही बढ़ा दीं ।
अब तो गायत्री मन्त्र की शक्ति के प्रभाव से ब्राह्मण को भूख, प्यास व शारीरिक व्याधि की तनिक भी चिन्ता नहीं रही । गायत्री मन्त्र जाप के कारण उसके चेहरे पर तेज झलकने लगा । लोगों का ध्यान ब्राह्मण की ओर आकर्षित होने लगा । दर्शनाभिलाषी उनके दर्शन कर मिठाई, फल, पैसे, कपड़े चढ़ाने लगे । अब तो उसे बीरबल से प्राप्त होने वाली अशर्फियों की भी आवश्यकता नहीं रही । यहाँ तक कि अब तो ब्राह्मण को श्रद्धा पूर्वक चढ़ाई गई वस्तुओं का भी कोई आकर्षण नहीं रहा । बस वह सदैव मन से गायत्री जाप में लीन रहने लगा ।
ब्राह्मण सन्त के नित्य गायत्री जप की खबर चारों ओर फैलने लगी । दूरदराज से श्रद्धालु दर्शन करने आने लगे । भक्तों ने ब्राह्मण की तपस्थली में मन्दिर व आश्रम का निर्माण करा दिया । ब्राह्मण के तप की प्रसिद्धि की खबर अकबर को भी मिली । बादशाह ने भी दर्शन हेतु जाने का फैंसला लिया और वह शाही तोहफे लेकर राजसी ठाठबाट में बीरबल के साथ सन्त से मिलने चल पड़े । वहाँ पहुँचकर शाही भेंटे अर्पण कर ब्राह्मण को प्रणाम किया । ऐसे तेजोमय सन्त के दर्शनों से हर्षित हृदय सहित बादशाह बीरबल के साथ बाहर आ गए ।
तब बीरबल ने पूछा – ‘क्या आप इस सन्त को जानतें हैं ?’
अकबर ने कहा – ‘नहीं, बीरबल मैं तो इससे आज पहली बार मिला हूँ ।’
फिर बीरबल ने कहा – ‘महाराज ! आप इसे अच्छी तरह से जानते हो । यह वही भिखारी ब्राह्मण है, जिस पर आपने व्यंग्य कसकर कहा था कि ”ये हैं तुम्हारे ब्राह्मण ! जिन्हें ब्रह्म देवता कहा जाता है ?”
आज आप स्वयं उसी ब्राह्मण के पैरों में शीश नवा कर आए हैं । अकबर के आश्चर्य की सीमा नहीं रही । बीरबल से पूछा – ‘लेकिन यह इतना बड़ा बदलाव कैसे हुआ ?
बीरबल ने कहा – ‘महाराज ! वह मूल रूप में ब्राह्मण ही है । परिस्थितिवश वह अपने धर्म की सच्चाई व शक्तियोंं से दूर था । धर्म के एक गायत्री मन्त्र ने ब्राह्मण को साक्षात् ‘ब्रह्म’ बना दिया और कैसे बादशाह को चरणों में गिरने के लिए विवश कर दिया । ‘यही ब्राह्मण आधीन मन्त्रों का प्रभाव है । यह नियम सभी ब्राह्मणों पर सामान रूप से लागू होता है क्योंकि ब्राह्मण आसन और तप से दूर रहकर जी रहे हैं, इसीलिए पीड़ित हैं। वर्तमान में आवश्यकता है कि सभी ब्राह्मण पुनः अपने कर्म से जुड़ें, अपने संस्कारों को जानें और मानें । मूल ब्रह्मरूप में जो विलीन होने की क्षमता रखता है वही ब्राह्मण है । यदि ब्राह्मण अपने कर्मपथ पर दृढ़ता से चले तो देव शक्तियाँ उसके साथ चल पड़ती हैं ।🙏
When Akbar saw a Brahmin begging in a pathetic condition, he said sarcastically towards Birbal – ‘Birbal! These are your Brahmins! Who is known as Brahma Devta. These are beggars.
Birbal did not say anything at that time. But when Akbar went to the palace, Birbal came back and asked the Brahmin why he was begging.
The brahmin said – ‘I have no money, jewellery, land, and I am not much educated either. Therefore, begging is my compulsion to feed the family.
Birbal asked – ‘How much do you get from almsgiving in a day?
The Brahmin replied – ‘Six to eight Asharfis.
Birbal said – ‘If you get some work, will you stop begging?’
The Brahmin asked – ‘What should I do?’
Birbal said – ‘You have to take bath in Brahmamuhurta and wear clean clothes and chant Gayatri Mantra for 101 rounds daily and for this you will get 10 Asharfis as a gift every day.
The Brahmin accepted Birbal’s proposal. From the next day, the Brahmin stopped begging and started chanting the Gayatri Mantra with great devotion and would return to his home in the evening with 10 Asharfis as an offering. Seeing the true devotion and dedication of the Brahmin, after a few days Birbal increased both the number of chanting Gayatri Mantra and the number of Asharfis.
Now due to the power of Gayatri Mantra, the brahmin was not worried at all about hunger, thirst and physical ailments. Due to the chanting of Gayatri Mantra, his face started shining brightly. The attention of the people started getting attracted towards the Brahmin. Seeing him, the devotees started offering sweets, fruits, money, clothes. Now he didn’t even need the Asharfis he got from Birbal. Even now there is no attraction for the things offered to the Brahmin with reverence. Just he always started engrossed in chanting Gayatri with his mind.
The news of the Brahmin saint’s daily Gayatri chanting started spreading all around. Devotees from far away started coming to have darshan. The devotees got the temple and ashram built in the penance of the Brahmin. Akbar also got the news of the fame of Brahmin’s penance. The emperor also decided to go for darshan and with royal gifts, he went to meet the saint with Birbal in royal opulence. After reaching there, he bowed down to the Brahmin by offering royal gifts. The emperor with a joyful heart came out with Birbal at the sight of such a brilliant saint.
Then Birbal asked – ‘Do you know this saint?’
Akbar said – ‘No, Birbal, I have met him for the first time today.’
Then Birbal said – ‘Maharaj! You know this very well. This is the same beggar brahmin, on whom you sarcastically said, “These are your brahmins! Who are called Brahma Devatas?
Today you yourself have come with a head bow at the feet of the same Brahmin. Akbar’s surprise knew no bounds. Asked Birbal – ‘But how did this big change happen?
Birbal said – ‘Maharaj! He is basically a Brahmin. Under the circumstances, he was away from the truth and powers of his religion. A Gayatri Mantra of Dharma made the brahmin a real ‘Brahm’ and how it forced the emperor to fall at his feet. This is the effect of mantras under Brahmins. This rule applies equally to all brahmins because brahmins are living away from asanas and austerities, that is why they are suffering. At present, it is necessary that all Brahmins should again join their karma, know and obey their sanskars. The one who has the ability to merge into the original Brahman is a Brahmin. If a brahmin walks firmly on his path of action, then the divine powers go with him.
