एक बार एक किशोर ग्वाला अपनी गायों को चराने के लिए नदी के किनारे-किनारे उस जंगल में ले गया जहाँ हरी-भरी घास उगी थी। नदी के तट पर बरगद का एक विशाल वृक्ष था, जिसकी घनी एवं शीतल छाया में अनेक राहगीर अपनी थकान मिटाते थे।
ग्वाला भी अपने गायों को चरने के लिए जंगल में छोड़कर उस वृक्ष की शीतल छाया में आराम करने के लिए बैठ गया। मध्याह्न के समय उसने देखा कि एक साधुबाबा कहीं से आये और उन्होंने नदी में स्नान किया। इसके बाद वे उस विशाल वटवृक्ष की शीतल छाया में आसन बिछाकर बैठ गये। फिर उन्होंने दोनों आँखें बंद करके, नाक दबाकर कुछ क्रियाएँ कीं। वह ग्वाला साधुबाबा के इन क्रियाकलापों को ध्यानपूर्वक देखता रहा। जब संध्या-वंदन करके वे वहाँ से जाने की तैयारी करने लगे, तब उस ग्वाले ने बाबा के पास जाकर इन यौगिक क्रियाओं के विषय में पूछा।
उन्होंने कहा ऐसा करके मैं भगवान से बातें कर रहा था।
ग्वाला क्या ऐसा करने से भगवान सचमुच में आते हैं और बातें करते हैं ?
सिर हिलाकर ग्वाले के प्रश्न का उत्तर ‘हाँ’ में देते हुए बाबा आगे बढ़ गये। उसकी इतनी ऊँची स्थिति नहीं थी के वे भगवान से बातें कर सकें परंतु उन्होंने उस भोले-भाले ग्वाले को प्रोत्साहन देने के लिए ऐसा कह दिया।
जब साधु वहाँ से चले गये, तब ग्वाला भी वैसी ही क्रियाएँ करने लगा परंतु उसको भगवान का कुछ पता नहीं चला। फिर भी वह दृढ़ निश्चय करके बैठ गया कि बस, आज भगवान के दर्शन करने ही हैं। उसने सोचा कि ‘वे साधु भगवान से बातें कर सकते हैं तो मैं क्यों नहीं कर सकता !
तब ग्वाले ने पुन अपनी दोनों आँखें बंद कर ली और नाक को जोर-से दबा लिया। ऐसा करने से उसकी हृदयगती धीमी पड़ गयी तथा प्राण निकलने की नौबत आ गयी।
इधर भगवान शंकरजी का आसन डोलने लगा। उन्होंने ध्यान में देखा कि किशोर ग्वाला भगवान से बातें करने के लिए हठपूर्वक आँखें बंद करके व नाक दबाकर बैठा है। उस अबोध व निर्दोष ग्वाले को अकाल मृत्यु के मुँह में जाते देख भगवान शंकर उसके सामने प्रकट हो गये। भगवान ने ग्वाले से कहा वत्स !आँखें खोलो, मैं आ गया हूँ। मैं तुम पर बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ।
ग्वाले ने आँखें बंद रखते हुए इशारे से पूछा कि आप कौन हैं ?
भगवानः मैं वही भगवान हूँ जिसके लिए तुम आँखें बंद करके नाक दबाये बैठे हो।
ग्वाले ने झट-से आँखें खोलीं और श्वास लेना शुरू किया परंतु उसने कभी भगवान को देखा तो था नहीं। अत वह कैसे पहचानता कि ये ही सचमुच में भगवान हैं। उसने भगवान को पेड़ के साथ रस्सी से बाँध दिया और साधु को बुलाने के लिए दौड़ता हुआ गया। साधु अभी थोड़ी ही दूर पहुँचे थे, उन्हें रोककर ग्वाले ने सारी घटना कह सुनायी। साधु झटपट वहाँ पहुँचे, परंतु जिनके जीवन में झूठ-कपट होता है, विश्वास की कमी होती है, साधन-भजन तो करते हैं परंतु दृढ़ निश्चय एवं प्रेम से नहीं करते उनको भगवान क्यों दिखेंगे ! साधु को भगवान नजर ही नहीं आ रहे थे जबकि ग्वाले को स्पष्ट दिखायी दे रहे थे।
साधु ने कहा मुझे तो कुछ नजर नहीं आ रहा है।
तब ग्वाले ने इसका कारण भगवान से पूछा। भगवान ने कहा यंत्र की नाईं कोई हजार वर्ष भी जप-तप करे फिर भी मुझे प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता, परंतु जो श्रद्धा, प्रीति और सच्चाईपूर्वक क्षण भर के लिए भी मुझे भजता है, मैं उसे शीघ्र दर्शन देता हूँ।
भगवान ग्वाले से जो कह रहे थे वह साधु को भी सुनायी दे रहा था। उनकी आँखों से पश्चाताप के आँसू बहने लगे। वे फूट-फूटकर रोने लगे। इससे द्रवित होकर ग्वाले ने भगवान से उन्हें माफ करने के लिए प्रार्थना की। ग्वाले की श्रद्धा व परदुःखकातरता के भाव से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शंकर ने साधुबाबा को माफ कर दिया और उन्हें भी दर्शन दिये। फिर दोनों को आशीर्वाद देकर वे अंतर्धान हो गये।
आप उस ग्वाले की तरह नाक दबाकर हठ करें इसलिए वह कथा नहीं कही गयी है, बल्कि अपने मन को समझायें कि यदि एक अनपढ़ ग्वाला साधारण साधु की देखा-देखी ही सही, विश्वासपूर्वक प्रभु को पुकारता है और उसे प्रभु के दर्शन हो जाते हैं तो फिर यदि कोई व्यक्ति सच्चे उच्चकोटि के महापुरुष, ईश्वर को पाये हुए ब्रह्मवेत्ता सदगुरू की आज्ञानुसार साधना करे तो उसे प्रभुप्राप्ति में देर कितनी !

Once a teenager Gwala took his cows to the forest on the banks of the river where the green grass had grown. There was a huge banyan tree on the banks of the river, in which many passers used to eradicate their fatigue in dense and cool shade.
Gwala also left in the forest to graze his cows and sat down to rest in the cool shade of that tree. At midday, he saw that a Sadhubaba came from somewhere and he bathed in the river. After this, he sat down laying asanas in the cool shade of that huge vatavriksha. Then they closed both eyes and pressed their nose and performed some actions. He kept watching these activities of Gwala Sadhubaba carefully. When he started preparing to leave from there, that Gwale went to Baba and asked about these compound activities.
He said: “By doing this I was talking to God.”
Gwala: “Does God really come and talk?”
Baba moved forward while answering Gwale’s question in ‘yes’. He did not have such a high situation that he could talk to God, but he said so to encourage that innocent cow.
When the monks left from there, Gwala also started doing the same actions but he did not know anything about God. Still, he sat down determined that ‘Just, today you have to see God.’ He thought that ‘those sages can talk to God, so why can’t I do it!’
Then Gwale again closed both his eyes and pressed the nose hard. By doing this, his heart slowed down and the life came out.
Here Lord Shankarji’s seat started to dominate. He saw in mind that Kishore Gwala is sitting stubbornly with his eyes closed and pressing his nose to talk to God. Lord Shankar appeared in front of him after seeing that innocent and innocent coward in the mouth of premature death. God said to Gwale: “Watts! Open your eyes, I have come. I am very happy on you.”
Gwale kept his eyes closed and asked with a gesture, ‘Who are you?’
God: “I am the same God for whom you are sitting with your eyes pressed.”
Gwale quickly opened his eyes and started breathing but he never saw God. So how does he recognize that he is truly God. He tied the Lord with a rope with a tree and ran to call the monk. The monks had just reached a short distance away, stopping them and told the whole incident. The monks quickly reached there, but those who have a lie in life, lack faith, do means and hymns, but why will they not see God with determination and love! The monk could not see God, while Gwale was clearly visible.
The monk said “I can’t see anything.”
Gwale then asked God the reason for this. God said: “Even after chanting a thousand years of the instrument of the device, I cannot get me, but the reverence, love and truthful even for a moment, I give him a quick darshan.”
What God was saying to Gwale was also narrating to the monk. The tears of remorse started flowing from his eyes. They started crying bitterly. By this, Gwale prayed to God to forgive him. Pleased with the sense of reverence and performance of Gwale, Lord Shankar forgives Sadhubaba and gave him a darshan. Then they became impeded by blessing both of them.
You should stubbornly press the nose like that gawale, so that story is not said, but explain to your mind that if an illiterate Gwala sees a simple monk, he is true, confidently calls the Lord and gets to see the Lord, then if a person is a great man of the true high quality, the Sadguru found in the Sadguru, then how much will he delay!
