साधु-महात्माको कुछ देकर आना चाहिये

स्वामीजी श्री भोलानन्दगिरिजी महाराज कटकमें बाबू देवेन्द्रनाथ मुखर्जीके घर ठहरे थे। कॉलेजके चार छात्र स्वामीजीके दर्शनार्थ वहाँ गये। छात्रोंने जाकर चरणोंमें प्रणाम किया। स्वामीजीने बड़े मधुर स्वरमें कहा-‘बच्चो ! साधु या देवताके दर्शनार्थ जाना हो तब उन्हें देनेके लिये कुछ भेंट ले जानी चाहिये। नहीं तो, बड़ा अपराध होता है। तुमलोग यहाँ साधु-दर्शनके लिये आये हो तो मुझे कुछ दे जाना चाहिये।’

छात्रोंने सोचा कि ‘स्वामीजी कुछ रुपये चाहते हैं। वे मनमें सोचने लगे, हम गरीब छात्र रुपया-पैसा कहाँसे लायें।’ इतनेमें ही स्वामीजी हँसकर बोले- ‘देखो बच्चो ! रुपये-पैसेकी बात मत सोचो। मुझे तो तुम यहवचन दे जाओ कि मेरी कही हुई चार बातें याद रखोगे और इनका पालन करोगे। कभी भूल हो जाय तो कुछ पैसे दण्डस्वरूप देवपूजन या गरीब-सेवामें लगा दोगे। वे चार बातें ये हैं

(1) कभी मिथ्या न बोलना ।

(2) परचर्चा नहीं करना ।

(3) शपथ नहीं करना और

(4) चरित्रनाश कभी न होने देना ।

बस, हमारी यही शिक्षा है।’ छात्रोंने आदेश स्वीकार किया। स्वामीजी बहुत प्रसन्न हुए। उन छात्रोंमें एक मैं भी था। लंबा काल बीत गया, पर स्वामीजीकी अमर वाणी मेरे हृदयमें बैठी हुई है।

Swamiji Shri Bholanandgiriji Maharaj was staying at the house of Babu Debendranath Mukherjee in Cuttack. Four college students went there to see Swamiji. The students went and bowed at his feet. Swamiji said in a very sweet voice – ‘ Children! If you want to visit a saint or a deity, then some gift should be taken to give them. Otherwise, it is a big crime. You people have come here to see the saints, so I should give something.’
The students thought that ‘Swamiji wants some money. They started thinking in their mind, from where can we poor students get money.’ In the meantime, Swamiji laughed and said – ‘Look children! Don’t think about money. At least give me this promise that you will remember the four things I said and follow them. If you ever make a mistake, you will spend some money as a punishment for worshiping gods or serving the poor. those four things are
(1) Never tell a lie.
(2) Not to discuss.
(3) not swearing and
(4) Never let character get destroyed.
That’s all, this is our education. The students accepted the order. Swamiji was very pleased. I was also one of those students. Long time has passed, but Swamiji’s immortal voice is sitting in my heart.
