गुलामकी परीक्षा
एक बादशाहने दो गुलाम खरीदे। उनमें से एक गुलाम दीखनेमें अच्छा था और दूसरा बदसूरत था। बादशाहने पहले गुलामको बुलाया। उससे बातचीत करके बादशाहको महसूस हुआ कि यह गुलाम बहुत बुद्धिमान् और मृदुभाषी है। उसने गुलामसे जानेको कह दिया और फिर दूसरे गुलामको बुलाया। बादशाह उसे देखकर खुश नहीं हुआ। लेकिन उसकी योग्यता और गुणोंको परखनेकी सोचने लगा। उसने गुलामसे कहा तुमसे पहले जो गुलाम आया था, वह तुम्हारी बहुत बुराई कर रहा था। लेकिन तुम्हें देखकर उसकी बातोंपर यकीन नहीं होता। खैर, तुम ही अपने बारेमें कुछ बता दो। गुलामने कहा-‘यदि उसने मेरे बारेमें कुछ कहा है, तो सच ही कहा होगा। हो सकता है, जो दोष उसने मुझमें बताये हैं, वे मुझे खुद न दीखते हों।’ उसकी बात सुनकर बादशाहने कहा-‘मैं चाहता हूँ कि तुम भी उसकी कमियोंके बारेमें कुछ बताओ।’ गुलाम बोला—’वह बड़ा सच्चा इंसान है। उसमें सादगी और
सच्चाई है। वह बहादुर भी है। उससे ज्यादा भला इंसान मैंने आजतक नहीं देखा।’ बादशाहने उसकी बात सुनी और उसे बाहर भेज दिया। अब वह सोचने लगा कि जिस तरहसे मैंने दूसरे गुलामकी परीक्षा ली है, क्यों न, वैसे ही पहले गुलामकी भी परीक्षा लूँ। बादशाहने पहले गुलामको बुलवाकर कहा-‘ अभी जो गुलाम यहाँसे गया है, वह तो तुम्हारी बहुत बुराई कर रहा था। यदि मैं उसकी बातों पर ध्यान दूँ, तो तुम्हें इसी समय महल छोड़कर चले जाना चाहिये।’ यह सुनकर गुलाम चिढ़ गया और बोला “उस बदसूरत इंसानने जो कुछ मेरे बारेमें कहा है, वह गलत है। उसे अच्छे-बुरेकी परख ही कहाँ है।’
गुलामके मनमें जो आ रहा था, बोलता जा रहा था। बादशाहने उसकी बात सुनकर कहा- ‘उसका तो सिर्फ रंग-रूप ही बुरा है, लेकिन तुम्हारा तो मन कुरूप है। मैं तुम्हें उसका अधीनस्थ गुलाम बनाता हूँ। यह सुनकर गुलाम समझ गया कि यह तो बादशाहका परीक्षा लेनेका तरीका था, जिसमें वह पिछड़ चुका है। उसने गुलामी स्वीकार कर ली और बादशाहसे माफी माँगी।
सुन्दर और लुभावना रूप होते हुए भी, यदि मनुष्यमें अवगुण हैं, तो उसका मान नहीं हो सकता। यदि रूप बुरा, पर चरित्र अच्छा है, तो वह मनुष्य सदैव समादरका अधिकारी होता है।
slave test
An emperor bought two slaves. One of the slaves was good looking and the other was ugly. The king first called the slave. After talking to him, the king realized that this slave is very intelligent and soft-spoken. He asked the slave to leave and then called another slave. The king was not happy to see him. But started thinking of testing his ability and qualities. He said to the slave, the slave who came before you was doing a lot of harm to you. But seeing you, you would not believe his words. Well, tell me something about yourself. The slave said – ‘If he has said something about me, he must have told the truth. It is possible that I do not see the faults that he has pointed out in me.’ After listening to him, the king said – ‘I want you to also tell something about his shortcomings.’ The slave said – ‘He is a very truthful person. simplicity and
Truth is. He is also brave. I have never seen a better person than him. The emperor listened to him and sent him out. Now he started thinking that the way I have tested the second slave, why not test the first slave as well. The king called the first slave and said – ‘ The slave who has just left here, was doing a lot of bad things to you. If I heed his words, then you should leave the palace at this very moment.’ Hearing this, the slave got irritated and said, “Whatever that ugly person has said about me is wrong. He does not know the difference between good and bad.”
Whatever was coming in the mind of the slave, he was speaking. After listening to him, the king said- ‘Only his appearance is bad, but your mind is ugly. I make you his subordinate slave. Hearing this, the slave understood that this was the king’s way of testing, in which he has lagged behind. He accepted slavery and apologized to the king.
In spite of having a beautiful and attractive appearance, if a man has demerits, he cannot be respected. If the form is bad, but the character is good, then that person is always entitled to respect.
