अनूठी विरक्ति
दक्षिण भारतके एक राज्य के अधिपति पीपा परम सदाचारी और धर्मात्मा थे। प्रजाकी सेवामें तत्पर रहने के साथ-साथ वे नियमित रूपसे भगवान्का ध्यान तथा धर्मशास्त्रोंका अध्ययन किया करते थे।
एक बार किसी विख्यात सन्तकी सलाहपर वे प्रधानमन्त्री तथा अन्य लोगोंको साथ लेकर स्वामी रामानन्दजीके दर्शनके लिये काशी पहुँचे। उन्होंने प्रधानमन्त्रीको स्वामीजीके पास भेजा। उसने कहा ‘हमारे राजा आपके दर्शन करना चाहते हैं। आश्रममें आनेकी स्वीकृति दें।’ स्वामीजीने कहा-‘राजा महाराजाओंसे मुझे क्या लेना-देना? मैं निर्धन एवं यायावर साधु-संन्यासियोंसे बातेंकर सन्तोषका अनुभवकरता
हूँ।’
पीपा तुरंत राजधानी लौट आये। उन्होंने
अपनीतमाम व्यक्तिगत सम्पत्ति निर्धनोंमें वितरित कर दी। तत्पश्चात् एक निर्धनके रूपमें वे पुनः काशी पहुंचे। स्वामी रामानन्दको जब राजाके इस त्यागका पता लगा, तो उन्होंने उपदेश देते हुए कहा- ‘राजन्! अपनेको राजाकी जगह भगवान्का प्रतिनिधि मानकर जनताकी सेवा करो। यही राजाका सर्वोत्तम धर्म है। राज्यमें कोई भूखा-प्यासा न रहने पाये, किसीके साथ अन्याय न हो इसका ध्यान रखते हुए भगवान्की उपासना करो। ऐसा करनेपर तुम्हारी गणना आगे चलकर सद्गृहस्थ राज-सन्तके रूपमें होगी।’
कुछ वर्ष बाद स्वामी रामानन्द उनके राज्यमें पहुँचे। पीपा तथा उनकी रानीको उन्होंने दीक्षा दी। पीपाकी गणना आगे चलकर परम विरक्त राज- सन्तके रूपमें हुई।

Pipa, the ruler of a state in South India, was very pious and pious. Along with being ready to serve the people, he used to regularly meditate on God and study the scriptures.
Once, on the advice of a famous saint, he reached Kashi with the Prime Minister and other people to visit Swami Ramanandji. He sent the Prime Minister to Swamiji. He said ‘our king wants to see you. Give permission to come to the ashram.’ Swamiji said – ‘What do I have to do with the kings and emperors? I feel satisfied talking to the poor and itinerant hermits
am.’
Pipa immediately returned to the capital. They
Distributed all his personal wealth among the poor. After that he reached Kashi again as a poor. When Swami Ramanand came to know about this sacrifice of the king, he preached and said – ‘Rajan! Serve the public by considering yourself as the representative of God instead of the king. This is the best religion of the king. Worship God keeping in mind that no one should remain hungry or thirsty in the state, no injustice should be done to anyone. By doing this, you will be counted in the form of a good-hearted king-saint in the future.
Swami Ramanand reached his kingdom after a few years. He initiated Pipa and his queen. Pipa was later recognized as the ultimate disinterested Raj-saint.
