दृढ़ निष्ठा

पर्वतराजकुमारी उमा तपस्या कर रही थीं। उनके जो नित्य आराध्य हैं, वे ठहरे नित्य-निष्काम। उन योगीश्वर चन्द्रमौलिमें कामना होगी और वे पाणिग्रहण | करेंगे किसी कुमारीका, यह तो सम्भावना ही नहीं। परंतु हैं आशुतोष जब वे औढरदानी प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं, उनके चरणोंमें किसीकी कैसी भी कामना अपूर्ण कहाँ रही है। इसलिये पार्वती उन शशाङ्कशेखरको तपस्या से प्रसन्न करना चाहती थीं।

जिसकी आराधना की जा रही थी, वह स्वयं आया था; किंतु जबतक वह स्वयं अपना परिचय न दे उसे कोई पहचान कैसे सकता है। पार्वतीके सम्मुख तो एक युवक ब्रह्मचारी खड़ा था। रूखी जटाएँ, वल्कल पहिने, कमण्डलु और पलाशदण्ड लिये वह ब्रह्मचारी – बड़ा वाचाल था वह तपस्विनी उमाका अस्वीकार करनेसे पूर्व ही उसने उनकी तपस्याका कारण पूछा और तब उसकी वाणी पता नहीं कैसे अहो कंठी ‘सभी देवता और लोकपाल तुम्हारे पिता हिमालयके प्रदेशों में ही रहते हैं तुम्हारे जैसी सुकुमारी क्या तपस्यार्क योग्य है? मैंने दीर्घकालतक तप किया है,चाहो तो मेरा आधा या पूरा तप ले लो; पर तुम्हें चाहिये

क्या ? तुम्हें अलभ्य क्या है? तुम इच्छा करो तो

त्रिभुवनके स्वामी भगवान् विष्णु भी।’

लेकिन उमाने ऐसा भाव दिखाया कि ब्रह्मचारी दो क्षणको रुक गया; किंतु वह फिर बोला- ‘तुम्हें क्या धुन चढ़ी है? योग्य वरमें तीन गुण देखे जाते हैं-1 सौन्दर्य, 2 कुलीनता और 3 सम्पति इन तीनोंमेंसे एक भी नाम मात्रको भी शिवमें है? नीलकण्ठ, त्रिलोचन, जटाधारी, विभूति पोते, साँप लपेटे, त्रिशूल, डमरू और खप्पर लिये शिवमें कहीं सौन्दर्य दीखता है तुम्हें? उनकी सम्पत्तिका तो पूछना ही क्या नंगे रहते हैं या बहुत हुआ तो चमड़ा लपेट लिया। कोई नहीं जानता कि उनकी उत्पत्ति कैसे हुई।’
ब्रह्मचारी पता नहीं क्या-क्या कहता; किंतु यह आराध्यकी निन्दा सुने कौन? उमाका तो दृढ़ निश्चय था

जनम कोटि लगि रगर हमारी।

बरउँ संभु न त रहउँ कुआरी ॥

अतः वे अन्यत्र जानेको उठ खड़ी हुई। जहाँ ऐसी दृढ़ निष्ठा है, वहाँ लक्ष्य कहीं अप्राप्त रह सकता है। -सु0 सिं0

Three qualities are seen in a worthy bridegroom – 1 beauty, 2 nobility and 3 wealth. Do you see any beauty in Shiva carrying Neelkanth, Trilochan, Jatadhari, Vibhuti grandson, snake wrapped, Trishul, Damru and Khappar? To ask about their property, do they live naked or if enough is enough, they wrap themselves in leather. No one knows how they originated.’
Don’t know what the celibate would have said; But who will listen to this praise of Aaradhya? Umaka was determined
It took crores of births for us.
Come on Sambhu, let’s not remain single.
