परिश्रम गौरवकी वस्तु है

अमेरिकामें स्वातन्त्र्य-संग्रामके समय एक किलेबन्दी हो रही थी। कुछ सैनिकोंके द्वारा एक नायक उस कामको करा रहा था। सैनिक किलेकी दीवारपर एक भारी लकड़ी चढ़ानेका प्रयत्न कर रहे थे; किंतु सफल नहीं हो रहे थे। नायक उन्हें आज्ञा तो दे रहा था और प्रोत्साहित भी कर रहा था; किंतु स्वयं लकड़ी उठाने में हाथ नहीं लगाता था ।

उधरसे घोड़ेपर बैठे एक सज्जन निकले। उन्होंने नायकसे कहा—’आप भी लकड़ी उठवानेमें लग जायँ तो लकड़ी ऊपर चढ़ जाय ।’

नायकने उत्तर दिया—‘मैं इस टुकड़ीका नायक हूँ।’ ‘आप मुझे क्षमा करें।’ वे सज्जन घोड़ेपरसे उतर 4 पड़े। अपना कोट उन्होंने उतार दिया, टोपी अलग रख दी और कमीजकी बाँहें ऊपर चढ़ाकर सैनिकोंके साथजुट गये। उनके परिश्रम तथा सहयोगका परिणाम यह हुआ कि लकड़ी ऊपर चढ़ गयी धन्यवाद महोदय!’ नायकने उन सज्जनको लकड़ी चढ़ जानेपर कहा

अपना कोट पहिनते हुए वे बोले-‘इसमें धन्यवादकी तो कोई बात नहीं। आपको जब कभी ऐसी आवश्यकता हो तो अपने प्रधान सेनापतिके पास संदेश भेज दिया करें, जिससे मैं आकर आपकी सहायता कर जाया करूँ; क्योंकि मुझे पता है कि परिश्रम करना हीनताकी नहीं, गौरवकी वस्तु है । ‘

‘प्रधान सेनापति !’ बेचारा नायक तो हक्का बक्का रह गया। परंतु प्रधान सेनापति घोड़ेपर चढ़कर शीघ्रतापूर्वक वहाँसे आगे निकल गये।

A fort was being built in America during the freedom struggle. A hero was getting that work done by some soldiers. The soldiers were trying to put a heavy wood on the fort wall; But were not getting successful. The hero was commanding and encouraging them as well; But he himself did not use his hand in lifting the wood.
From there a gentleman came out sitting on a horse. He said to the hero – ‘If you also get busy in lifting the wood, then the wood will climb up.’
The hero replied – ‘I am the hero of this troop.’ ‘You may excuse me.’ That gentleman got down from the horse. He took off his coat, kept his hat aside and rolled up his shirt sleeves and joined the soldiers. The result of their hard work and cooperation was that the wood climbed up. Thank you sir!’ The hero said to that gentleman when he climbed the stick
Wearing his coat, he said – ‘There is nothing to thank in this. Whenever you have such a need, send a message to your commander-in-chief, so that I will come and help you; Because I know that working hard is not inferiority but a matter of pride. ,
‘Commander in Chief!’ The poor hero was stunned. But the commander-in-chief quickly went ahead of him by mounting a horse.
